If you are looking for a good solid t2 campervan project this one will save you a lot of time and money. I bought this bay from a friend who imported it a couple of years ago from the states. He offered me the van as he know that I do a lot of bus restorations and out of interest and courtesy I went to have a look with no intension of buying but when I looked around this bay I was really surprised. I have seen a lot of US and Brazilian imports from busses and karmanns through to Ferrari and mercs but rarely are they genuinely rot free and if they are they are usually caked in `BONDO` or filler as we call it. But this Bay window is one of the exceptions. The long side panels looked very straight the shuts where all spot on and the underside only had two small holes both on the passenger foot step. He knew this was a good bus and charged accordingly and I was happy to pay because I knew this would be a good one.
We stripped the windows out checked the apertures. nbsp;repaired the dents in the front panel and in the nearside rear corner and then stripped the upper body of paint. Which revealed that the bus had indeed had no welding done not even the usual sill and lower side panel replacements and they are solid good metal. With a body this good I wanted to polish the metal and lacquer it and use it like that (rather then painting her).
Since then it has sat in my work shop for the last year collecting dust. I just don't have the time needed and clients classics have to be my priority.   If you want to be sure that you get a really good bus then this one is really worth considering please feel free to pop down and take a look (I will have to dig her out). To properly repair a bus cost thousands in hours and quality panels. getting a good bus that you can see is solid will be much more cost effective in the long run and everything lines up lovely.
This is a rolling shell. No interior (well a couple of nasty seats). No engine. It does have running gear. brakes. glass (front window is delaminated but the rest are great - with rear quarter windows and two original good condition louvres). bright work is all very good and it has a full length pop top with built in luggage rack -the tops fibreglass need some repair and the wood frame needs attention-should you choose to keep it. I was going to put a rag top or plexi glass section in. It also has a rather unusual padded dash with OE air conditioning unit. all import duties have been paid by original importer .
This bus may sound expensive but I need to break even and also you get want you pay for and sincerely and honestly this is a very good bus.     Obviously please do not bid if you do are not going to buy and please feel free to pop over to inspect and verify what I have written above. We are based just north of Aylesbury. nbsp;between oxford and Milton Keynes - full address available by request.
