This particular car is equipped with rare dual sidemounts (including 2 additional whitewall tires). and has the original Packard radio and optional dual heater. This is an older restoration performed on a very solid car. There are no dents and no rust holes anywhere on the body or frame. The paint looks great; however there are age cracks in the lacquer in various places that do not show up in photographs. but are visible when one looks closely from a couple of feet away. I purchased the car six years ago in virtually the same very good condition from a local museum. and must now part with it due to retirement. The only expenses in all that time have been the radio repair. annual lube and fluid changes and a tune-up. This is one very reliable collector car.
Chrome is excellent. inside and out. The dark gray carpeting is beginning to fade a little from sun exposure. but the gray upholstery shows well and is in excellent condition. The dashboard. gauges. banjo steering wheel and all buttons and levers are in unusually good condition.
The engine starts right away. hot or cold. and is very strong. This engine is quite solid. with nine main bearings. hydraulic valve tappets and 160 HP – the most powerful eight on the market in the day. The transmission is trouble-free with good synchros. and the car will cruise all day at the speed limit in 3rd gear or overdrive.
I just checked the oil. and after six months since the last oil change. the oil level is full and the oil is clean. clear and still amber color. The car was tuned last year by a Packard expert responsible for maintaining a private collection of vintage automobiles. who remarked that this is one of the best driving pre-war Packards he has ever driven.
This car was one of a limited number of classis automobiles requested to attend the invitation-only 2012 Geneva Concours. and it received a 1st Place People's Choice Award at the Northbrook Classic in 2011.
Please plan to allow yourself a little extra time every time you take this car out for a drive. because everyone around you will smile. give you the thumbs-up. and want to ask you all about it.
