For Sale! - My pride and joy! - I have succumbed to pressure from 'Er in Doors'. Staff at work. Neighbours (who think they live next door to a garage) and of course Mother to reduce my fleet (I keep telling them 10 cars is normal) and so I have decided to put one of my Jaguars up for re-homing
So this is whats on offer
A Very Rare 2nd Series XJ40 XJ12 6. 0 V12 Long Wheel Base - Only about 300 of these were made between January and June 1994 and most sold to the Government. I cant see there being more than a hand full still about. These differ in detail from the previous version made up to December 1994 - Self leveling suspension deleted. nbsp;X300 type rear suspension added. passenger airbag added in lieu of passenger glove box. chrome headlamp bezels removed. black painted door glass trim.
This Car was supplied new to Ford Motor Co Ltd. Central Offices. Warley. Essex - by Grange Motors Ltd Brentwood on 26th January 1994 and from what i can gather it cost around £50. 00. It has spent most of its life in Sandwich (i think owned by the same person that must have worked at Ford). Kent until it found its way North around 2009 and came to me in June 2010 showing around 76. 00 miles. Its Service book is stamped all the way up to 73701 Miles when it runs out of pages. plus there is a red folder with endless bills - people have spent a fortune on this car over the years. one service alone was over £4000. All its original books are included. together with its tool kit (but for some reason this has the wrong colour touch up paint in it). BUT only one key and remote fob.
Since it came to me just over 6 years ago I have spent a small fortune servicing and improving the car. the lads next door at the local garage think i'm totally bonkers spending the money i have. You could say its been for the last 6 years maintained and improved regardless of cost.
This is a list of what i can remember i have done to the car (this in in addition to the 1000's spent by previous owners)
When it arrived with meServiced to Include - Oil. Filter. Air filters. Fuel Filter. Spark Plugs. Brakes Serviced. Drive Shafts Greased. New ZF power steering filter (like hens teath to get) & fluid. New anti roll bar and drop link bushes.  And then over the last few yearsVarious trim panels re fitted. squeeks and rattles cured. much cleaning and polishing. underside sprayed with shutz (a few times). box sections waxoiled. odd bits of stone chips etc touched in. new anti roll bar bushes and drop link bushes. new wheel bearing dust caps. new correct wheels. new P6000 tyres. second hand wiper motor and arms fitted (new not available). new air conditioning drive belt and idler pully. new alternator drive belt. Molyslip added to engine oil. Aircon re charged. new anti-freeze.
And then last yearOil & Filter Change. front nearside wing removed to locate and cure leak to front footwell that car seems to have had all its life - it was the wiring loom as it passed through inner wing. Small amount of plating done to bottom of wing while off. (no new wings available). everything painted and undersealed properly and all put back better than new with new stainless bolts. All valance panels removed. new valance rubber strip holder made and fitted. bumper removed and painted with scutz. All front carpets removed and new modern sound proofing foam and silver sound deadening sheet fitted. New radiator top and bottom rubber mounts. New power steering drive belt. New pedal rubber. New windscreen washer motor. New washer jet covers. new wiper blade. new offside headlamp control unit - £350! Second hand offside headlamp relay. New bonnet rubber seal. New oil cooler return pipe fitted to cure oil leak at joint with cooler - £500 OE part from Germany - took 3 days to fit! Alternator re build by a company in manchester - took me 3 days to get off and re fit - again OE not available so original re built.
And then this year to dateAll boot carpets and bulk head removed. rear lights removed. all boot lid trim removed. carpets cleaned. new bulkhead made. water leak from filler rubber seal cured (no OE parts available) New sound deadening mat fitted to boot floor and lid. silver faced deadening matt fitted to boot sides. alarm wires re routed. box sections waxoiled. New boot rim rubber seal fitted. Lights re fitted and sealed and new black plastic fixings used. New number plate lights & New (both) boot lid trims fitted. New Number Plate and holder trim. New front shock absorbers. polybush shock absorber bushes and drop link bushes fitted (5 hours each side). New front & rear discs. pads and wear senders. 12 new Jaguar spark plugs. New air conditioning pump relay fitted. air conditioning re gassed by 'Jo Cool' and checked a few weeks later to ensure still correct - as it takes a massive amount of gas!
Condition
So what we have here is a well sorted. well maintained very rare V12 6. 0 Jaguar. driving as it should. as you can see from the photos (taken today outside our model shop - sorry about the cat prints on the boot lid!) its in excellent unmolested condition. there is the odd hard to spot blemish but its 22 years old.   This is not some old jaguar that has been bodged along with issues and problems for you to sort out! BUT bear in mind this is an old classic car so you are going to have jobs to do on it as you go on over the years and its not cheap to maintain or run. you need to understand old jaguars or old cars. this is not a car that you can send to the jaguar dealers unless you are loaded! - I will NOT sell this to someone who does not understand this. this car is too rare and too good to be messed about with.
How much petrol does it use?
Well LOTS but to be honest you wont care what it does to the gallon. when you turn on that 6 litre V12 and listen to the V12 roar. and then when you have driven it and find it just keeps pulling like a train with its 318 bhp and never gives in. you will be hooked. These are 0-60mph in 6. 8 seconds and thats in a 2 tonne car!I run it on super plus unleaded and it does between 4 and 21 miles to the gallon. round town with a light foot its going to be around 12. on a fast run to the dales and lakes it does an average of around 17. the handbook says it does 27mpg at 56mph but the best i have had is 25. Also bear in mind with these V12 engines you need to keep checking the oil (it holds 2 gallons of 10-40 semi synthetic) as they do use more than you would expect. however this one does not use anywhere near as much as it says it will in the handbook. I use the car maybe 2 or 3 times a month for a run up to my holiday home in the Dales as it gets there faster and in more comfort than the S-type.
With the car comes any spare parts and books i can find that i have collected over the years. I know there are four second hand headlamps and a new headlamp control unit so thats over £500 in those two.
