1972 MGB Roadster

A genuinely unique ex Police overdrive equipped MGB Roadster. specially optioned and in just right restored condition.

History of this car

Not our usual stock but we couldn't resist this RHD home market Roadster finished in arguably the classiest colour combination for this model of Teal blue with ochre trim and black hood (all as original per Heritage certificate on file).

Surrey Constabulary obviously do things in some style and our MGB has a Police record of service as a Police car with them (Guildford station). fitted with additional equipment of numbered BL Special Tuning wheels and oil temperature gauge (National Archives correspondence on file). We understand this is the only convertible Police car ever used by Surrey Constabulary and possibly the only such example in the UK.

This sensational MGB has only had two enthusiast owners since 1985 and has enjoyed a comprehensive £25. 00 restoration to body. trim and mechanicals mainly by marque specialist Fisher Services. Whilst much of this work was conducted 10 years ago. today our presents as well as a 2 year-old example.

The icing on the cake is that our car benefits from a warmed-over engine and other upgrades and has got to be amongst the best examples out there. ready for showing. touring and events.

Body

The body on our car is superb and fully rebuilt. arrow straight with all correct panel gaps courtesy of a professional rebuild (receipts on file). To maintain the historical integrity of this car. it was not Heritage reshelled but instead carefully re-panelled by marque experts.

Paintwork is beautiful with no orange peel and the chrome is equally nice; the glass is security etched with the registration number.

The BL Special Tuning wheels have been repainted and fitted with undamaged hub caps. We think the car looks just as good without hub caps. as these valuable wheels have a Dunlop racing wheel look to them. Our car also comes with a set of OE Rostyles.

Mechanics

This MG is mechanically superb with a fully rebuilt and warmed over engine including high capacity oil pump. Peter Burgess unleaded gas flown cylinder head. Kent mild rally cam. full Moss TT stainless exhaust. including tubular manifold. The engine was reputedly dyno tested at 126 hp and this brilliant sounding engine delivers torque and power aplenty but is without temperament.


The SU HS4 carbs have been rebuilt as has the distributor. The original brass radiator is recored. the oil cooler has been refurbished as has the oil temperature gauge and adaptor per Police specification.

In addition the gearbox and over drive are rebuilt. as is the rear axle. the standard shock absorbers are uprated 50% (through MG club scheme). all bushes replaced. 12v battery conversion done. reconditioned fuel tank and new electric pump and brakes redone now using Ferodo Sport pads.

Interior

Another feature of this car is the perfect interior and hood. also fitted with CD player and additional fuel/air gauge together with the Police spec oil temperature gauge.

Boot

Spotless condition. correct 5th BL Special Tuning wheel spare. tonneau. jack and tool kit.

Summary

This is an MGB for somebody who wants something a bit different. Authentically restored and a hoot to drive. this car is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Comes with owner's handbook and workshop manual. tonneau cover and spare set of Rostyle wheels and tyres.
