1974 VW TRANSPORTER TYPE 21-515

Very rare opportunity to acquire a distinctive T2 Bus ideal for a Collector. Investor. Camper Conversion or Business Opportunity for sales and Promotion in Catering/Coffee/Cupcakes etc….

Built in Hanover Monday. March 11th 1974 and despatched to Salzburg Austria. this Hi Roof. Hi Sliding door bus has lived its entire life in Austria up until September 2011 when it was driven to the UK by its owner while relocating. I have no history on the bus from 74 to the mid eighties but quite a lot of receipts etc from then on.

In 1974 the Type 21 panel van accounted for 39822 vehicles out of a total production run of 174. 21. The 515 represented a small quantity within that 39 thousand and the option list Hi Sliding door accounted for even less. Meaning now. this is an extremely rare model. especially in the UK were only 5 or 6 are known to exist.

Floor to ceiling this bus is 168cm and the sliding door height is 157cm. This results in an amazing amount of room inside the bus!

I acquired the bus in May 2012 and systematically worked through the various parts of the van which I wasn't happy with……. This led to the usual list of body work removing sessions leading to replacement of Front arches. cab floor sections. loading bay floor sections replacements and repairs and pretty much anything else that didn't come up to scratch. Much of the work carried out by a local classic car specialist. I have tried to keep as many original features as possible and other than the MWS Fuchs aftermarket wheels. its as it came out of the factory in 74. The original steel wheels are available if preferred. I still have the rare single tub to 2/3rd seat conversion brackets if a 3 seat configuration fits the bill. I preferred the walk through single seat myself for convenience and practicality. The correct dark beige vinyl interior is in great shape considering this has lived the life of a commercial vehicle and the OG correct beige primer still resides inside the back of the bus.

All metal now resides and a new full 2K re-spray has completed the bodywork.

No mechanical issues are waiting other than the obligatory small oil leak so a service was completed and left at that. The 1600 twin port motor is not the original motor.

I was in two minds whether to convert the bus to a camper and lower the bus so I insulated the floor and lined it in 9mm marine ply and finished that off with 9” vintage vinyl tiles.

If you want to fit an interior now it's just a case of bolting it in…so would make an easy conversion. Numerous interior suppliers will fit a complete interior to your spec from £1600upwards. A finished camper in this condition sells for up to 20K!!

The bus draws attention everywhere it goes and coupled with its versatility is the prefect Promotional vehicle or Business Opportunity for Street. Fares and Festivals. Due to the head room. there's no stooping inside and plenty of room for counters and cabinets etc.

I have used the bus to promote a family business and the vinyl sign writing can be removed easily. Vinyls to your design to promote your business can be added if you wish at extra cost.

The current MOT expires in May but I will put a full MOT if sold at the asking price. The bus is Sorn but 6 month Tax will go on this week.

This is a very rare bus and is very distinctive and so this is a pretty much unique chance to get a slice of VW Commercial history! The appreciating values of classic Type 2 vehicles are well known. so this is a safe investment! Why have money in the bank when you can enjoy the interest with safe capitol!
