Amazing condition 1950 Dodge 1. 5 Ton Pick Up
This vehicle is extremely solid and completely original - it has a patina that is unbelievable.
The inside is in outstanding condition (with the exception of the driver's end of the bench seat. which has worn through with age and use. revealing the horsehair stuffing) with perfect gauges and switches. Plus - everything works!!
The load bed wood is splintered and broken in a few places but can easily be either patch repaired (to keep the wonderful aged look) or simply replaced. The drivers side windscreen. which is just flat glass. is cracked and the windscreen seals could do with replacing in preparation for the UK climate of rain. rain. and more rain.
The tyres need replacing as they seem very perished.
I imported the vehicle from the US but have never used it. It runs and drives well. is registered in the UK (with all duties paid). and is completely road legal.
It has the unique Fluid Drive system that was fitted to lots of vehicles during the forties and very early fifties. This is a manual gearbox and clutch system. but with a fluid flywheel (like a torque converter) that means you can stop and start without using the clutch or deselecting the gear. Weird. but kind of cool too.
As I've said. the condition of the truck is amazing. It's obviously been well used over it's 66 years of life. but it's also been incredibly well looked after too - the truck is the vehicular epitome of Shabby Chic.
In my mind it should perhaps be given a few coats of clear lacquer and used exactly as it is.
