1969 BMW 2000 CS

ULTRA RARE

ONLY 25. 95 MILES

GARAGED AND OFF THE ROAD SINCE 1985

FOR RESTORATION

Desirable sports model with 2 x twin choke Carburettors and manual transmission producing 120 HP. Of the 11. 20 worldwide production. 9. 99 were the sought after 2000 CS and only the remainder were sold as the unpopular and underpowered 100 HP 2000 C. of which some of these suffered the 3 speed automatic transmission reducing performance even further.

 

As additional information. all the UK RHD cars were originally imported into the UK as LHD vehicles. The 140 UK cars were converted to RHD by BMW GB at their Port Slade import premises in Sussex before being distributed to the dealer network (which was somewhat sparce in the 1960's).

LAST USED ON THE ROAD`S IN 1985 and KEPT IN A GARAGE SINCE.

Let me give you a little bit of history about WLT 24G!!!

 

According to BMW Archiv in Germany this BMW 2000 CS was manufactured on September 4th 1968 and delivered to the uk on September 16th 1968.

 

The car was purchased by the 1st owner and I was advised that he kept the car within the same family up until 1984 when the current registered keeper bought it. I was told that the original family owners kept the car in London and spent most of their time out of the country and only used the car sparingly for short visits back to the uk.

 

As stated in a previous listing by another BMW 2000 CS Owner. in 1967-69 when the cars were imported the BMW 2000CS was a very expensive car. It cost more than an E-type when they were sold in the UK by what is now Park Lane BMW GB. The marque was not popular then. having almost gone broke in the late 1950's. as those who know their automotive history will be aware. Only highly professional people could afford them and they were usually sold to people in and around London. For example. at least two UK cars were sold to royalty; One to Prince Michael of Kent and another to Elizabeth Chakrabongse. wife of Prince Chula of Siam.

 

Addition supporting evidence is that on the 31st January 1981 the car had covered 6. 02 miles on that MOT. Other MOTs show the mileage at 12. 44 on 30th January 1982. 20. 25 on 22 august 1983. and 25. 15 on November 29th 1985. The car then covered a few hundred miles before being taken off the road as per the tax disc on the windscreen.

The technician who recently re commissioned the engine removed the rocker cover and was astounded at how clean and like new it was. He commented that in his experience the engine was commensurate with the mileage shown.

 

Please take the time to look at all 4 videos of the engine running. I have shown the car starting. the car at idle and. revving under load. and the exhaust which shows no smoke!

 

(please note: in the video the car has the air filter housing removed but these are supplied with the vehicle – indeed. we are also supplying an additional air filter housing and 2 replacement solex twin choke carburettors which would cost a fortune should you try and source them. The carburettors on the car seem to be in perfect working order!!!!!)

 

I took the time to show the engine running sweetly so as to reassure potential buyers that there is nothing to hide and the heart of the car is good.

 

Lots of restorations are marketed with the engine not running. and sold as is. Scenarios like ‘starter motors in the boot' or ‘no battery on the car' or ‘I have not tried to start it' etc etc Be warned these cars could be seized solid. could have the big ends gone. and need literally thousands of pounds spending on them etc etc

 

Although the car engine runs sweetly I must stress this is a restoration. The brakes are not working. the clutch cable has snapped but again included in the huge supply of spares there is a replacement gearbox should you need it (the gearbox in the car seems fine and shifts in and out of gear correctly!) and brake servos and other brake components should you need them – please see pictures!!!!

 

The interior

 

As you can see from the pictures the interior of this 45 year old BMW is quite exceptional. The headlining is tight and taught and free from tears and will probably require and gentle clean.

 

The seats back and front are again exceptional. tear free condition and commensurate with the cars low mileage.

 

The rear parcel shelf has a speaker hole in it but we are supplying a complete undamaged rear parcel shelf in the spares.

 

The electric window motors can all be heard working although I am cautious to lower them in case I have a problem closing them again.

 

The door cards are in generally good condition with no apparent tears or cuts.

 

The dashboard as can be seen in the pictures is in very good condition and free from splits or sun damage. The general appearance of the wood veneer is very good. however this will need to be reconditioned to make perfect.

 

The car sadly never had over mats so the carpets are looking tired and need replacing when the car is restored.

 

The chrome work inside the car seems to be excellent. Please see the pictures!!

 

On any rare classic it is often the interiors and trim parts that are hardest to source. The beauty with this car is that the interior will require very little work to make perfect and will retain the original patina. which is lost when a car is reupholstered in non-original materials!!!!!

 

The external chrome work

 

The chrome again. is in generally very good condition. The front bumper (which is one of the hardest and most expensive parts to source) is in good solid dent free condition. This could be re chromed to make perfect. However. I am including another good front bumper which could also be re chromed to keep as a spare or sold for a profit. I have seen front bumpers on German ebay sell for over 1. 00 Euros!!!!!!

 

The rear bumper is again in exception for its age however there is a small dent on the left hand side which could possibly be removed prior to re chroming. However. I am including another good rear bumper which could also be re chromed to keep as a spare or sold for a profit. I have seen rear bumpers on German ebay sell for over 1. 00 Euros!!!!!!

 

The protective wrap around chrome side trim is in very good condition. Although there is the odd light scratch. they are not bent or dented and so. could be re polished or re chromed. The part of this trim which runs around the front of the vehicle again is free from dents. although yet again. I am including another one of these which could be re chromed to keep as a spare or sold for a profit.

 

All 4 hub caps are present although they are dented. Please see the pictures.

 

I cannot describe every piece of trim on the car but please look at my comprehensive photobucket to see the condition of the chrome.

 

The body

 

As with every New Klasse BMW of this generation rust was its biggest enemy! Sadly. this 2000 CS is no exception and will require a full body restoration. The bodies for these cars were assembled by Karmann and were not particularly resilient to rust. As such this is the area that deteriorates over time rather than the mechanicals.

 

Please do not think this is a weekends patch up work to be on the road the following week! This car needs and warrants a full restoration.

The passengers and driver floor will require welding/replacement in places and the spare wheel well has holes in it. Both rear wheel arches are rotten and will require fabricating as will the sills. The front wings have suffered badly although I am providing a pair of wings to help with this repair. They are not perfect but a good fabricator should be able to make 1 good wing from 2 bad ones with some new metal.

 

The bonnet is very rusty but yet again. a good replacement with correct BMW sound deadening is provided.

 

There is rust in the doors although I do not think they are beyond repair. however yet again. I am providing a passenger and a driver's spare door!!!

 

The roof appears to be very solid and sound. To do this car properly I believe the engine should be taken out and the engine bay cleaned. fabricated and repainted to make as new before the engine is refitted.

The price

 

Quite simply this ultra rare BMW 2000 CS is UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY and is one of the lowest mileaged examples left.

 

Not only are you buying a car which has an engine that runs beautifully. has a stunning interior requiring little work. and has good chromework. but also has what could be worth close to £10. 00 worth of Spares to assist with the restoration project or could be sold to recoup some of the costs of the car.

Please bare this in mind when bidding!!

 

If you type in BMW 2000 CS for sale on google you will find the second link down. is a blue BMW 2000 CS restoration for sale with over 100. 00 miles in similar condition to my car (WITH NONE OF THE SPARES INCLUDED) no doubt needing the same work my car does. for £29. 95 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

A couple of weeks ago. a beautifully restored example with the same mileage as this car was bid to a figure of £20. 00 reserve not met on ebay. and his reserve was circa £40. 00.

 

Furthermore. there was a left hand drive example on a classic car website recently that was being offered to be delivered to the UK. again. needing a restoration and that is now sold and was advertised for £15. 95!!

 

PRICES OF THESE CARS WILL ONLY GO UP AS THESE CARS ARE THE OLDER BROTHERS TO THE FAMOUS E9 (3. 0 CSI CSL ETC) BUT FAR RARER!!!!

 

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS A 2000 CS AND NOT THE LESS DESRIABLE 2000 C !! PRICES FOR THE C MODEL ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS STRONG AND ALSO REMEMBER THAT AUTOMATICS ARE WORTH EVEN LESS.
