PROJECT FOR SALE: 1981 RANGE ROVER 'IN VOUGE' 2DR BLUE

Liston vehicles are pleased to announce the arrival of one of the rarest classic range rovers currently in existence; The 1981 Range Rover In Vogue 2Dr.

HISTORY

THE PREDECESSOR TO THE ICONIC VOGUE RANGE ROVER.

This iconic vehicle marked a milestone in luxury travel. with a brand to match that is still so highly respected to this day. This ‘In Vogue' is one of a believed 400 originally produced for solely British markets in 1981. The manufacture of which was spurred on by the feature printed in the 1981 March edition of vogue magazine promoting the release of the spring collection . Originally never to be produced. after a bewildering number of enquiries followed the feature. the engineers at Range Rover saw an opportunity in the market for a highly luxurious take on their already popular high end 4x4.

It is not currently known how many of the original ‘In Vogue' Range Rovers are still around today due to a lack in documentation between models by the DVLA but it is given that the numbers are significantly diminished.

Opportunities like this really are few and far between.

GENERAL CONDITION

This vehicle has been off the road for just under 10 years. although it has been dry stored all this time it will require significant restoration works to bring it back to road worthy condition. Fully restored examples are becoming highly desirable vehicles selling for significant figures.

EXTERIOR

The iconic special blue paintwork and double pin striping is present. a defining feature of the ‘In Vogue'. Obviously this vehicle will require a full re-spray after carrying out the necessary welding works on the inner steel structure of the shell. The shell is in fair condition but areas I would say would need attention would include the boot floor. the inner steel wings and the steel boot lid.

The chassis appears to be in generally good condition but showing surface rust. The aluminium exterior panels of this Range Rover are in surprisingly good condition.

INTERIOR

The interior is complete. although looking a little tired. everything is present. The original clocks all appear to be working along with the original factory radio and speakers.

The headlining has dropped but is still present.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 3. 5 liter V8 engine starts and runs but would need properly re-commissioning by the new owner. The four-speed gearbox selects all gears including reverse with little play in the linkage. The gearbox also boasts an overdrive system that is untested by us. The clutch seems to have good pressure without any excessive noise or vibration.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES

The original In Vogue pressed steel wheels have been replaced with a set of 3 spoke alloy wheels to match the car pictured in the vogue photo shoot. One of the original wheels still remains as a spare.  

EQUIPMENT

Air conditioning. overdrive. safety glass all round. anti-burst locks. water temperature gauge. oil pressure and generator warning lights. three speed windscreen wipers. hazard warning flashers. windscreen washer/wiper. ignition/steering column lock. push button door locks. dipping rear view mirror with breakaway stem. demister. two speed heater/demister fan. two padded sun visors. heated rear window.

HISTORY FILE

Included in the sale is the full V5c registration certificate. a folder full of old MOT certificates and documentation and also the March 1981 edition of vogue magazine that made this vehicle so iconic.
