Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 226 votes
This is my beautiful 1967 MGBGT. first registered in November 1967 on an F plate. This car is a completely unmolested Mk1 car with the narrow transmission tunnel but the 5 bearing B series engine. The engine is the original unit. never rebuilt to my knowledge. and on just over 82. 00 genuine miles. The documentation is substantial. with many of the old MOT certificates and a colossal number of receipts telling the story of a car that has been extremely well looked after during it's 49 year history.
This car has all of the most desirable factory options namely wire wheels. heated rear screen and overdrive. although at the moment the heated screen is not connected. Aftermarket options include the full length sunroof.
It has sailed through the last 4 MOTs with no advisories. and is eligible for free tax due to its classic status.
BodyThe car has been the subject of some body restoration. with new full length sills and castle sections fitted in the last 10 years. The trumpet sections under the front wings have also been replaced to a high standard. The rest of the body has had very little need for attention. in particular the rear wings are original and rust free. The bonnet is the original aluminium unit in perfect condition. The car was fitted with a full length Britax sunroof in its early years. The car was resprayed 3 years ago from bare metal. The paint finish is not perfect. with some blemishes and orange peel effect but is intact and smart. The paint is a two pack system. and has been laid quite thickly. so it would be possible to cut back many of the blemishes. There are one or two blemishes from regular use.
InteriorThe interior is mostly original. and was fitted at the factory with red leather / black piping seats. and ultra-rare red rubberised floor mats instead of carpet. The sills were originally covered with the same system. but these had deteriorated beyond serviceability and so I have replaced them with a red carpet sill covering. All of the seats are original. and thus have the patina of age. The front seats are faded and creased. but the only tear is at the top of the drivers seat and is not obvious. Both front seats are faded at the top and need regular nourishing to preserve them. The rear seats are in perfect condition. The headlining and sun visors are original and intact. although have some small staining here and there.
MechanicalsThe engine runs sweetly and perfectly. and starts first time. The oil pressure is normal and it does not use oil. which is testament to the maintenance it has seen throughout its life. The head has not been converted to lead-free so you need to use an additive with it. The specification is completely original. This is a positive earth car with a dynamo fitted. and the original points system and not electronic ignition. The gearbox and overdrive perform faultlessly. Recently the front suspension has been overhauled with new kingpins and suspension bushes. The rear leaf springs have also been recently replaced. The fuel pump and batteries were replaced last year. The car is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system to the original specification.
FaultsThe fuel gauge works intermittently. I suspect a faulty connection. The rev counter reads too high. The speedo reads about 10mph high across the range. so the needle needs to be repositioned.
Regularly driven. always reliable. These Mk1s are getting increasingly rare.
You are strongly recommended to view before bidding. There will be no test drive after the auction has ended. if you win the auction you have bought it. Send me a note if you want to view it. the car is located in Gloucestershire. The auction will NOT be ended early. so please don't ask.
