1954 JAGUAR XK120 FHC for sale

GJR 966 was manufactured on the 13th January 1954 and according to the Jaguar Enthusiast Club is number 118 of only 194 right hand drive XK120 Fixed Head Coupe's built. Many of the RHD XK120 FHC's were destined for other markets than the UK. such as South Africa and Australia and as result. genuine RHD examples are very rare and difficult to find in the UK. This Jaguar XK120 left the factory in Birch Grey with Red trim and was supplied new by Rossleigh. Newcastle Upon- Tyne to its first owner in Jesmond. North of the City Centre. Having spent its early years on Tyneside. according to the vehicles continuation ‘buff' logbook. the XK was in Prestwich. Manchester in 1965 and changed hands in 1966. moving to Fallowfield in South Manchester. During the 1970's the XK was off the road and not registered on the DVLA computerised systems in 1977. It wasn't until 1988 when the XK re-surfaced. being registered with an owner in Hull on the 14th March 1988. At the time. the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Registrar confirmed that in 1988. just three original RHD examples were known to the Club.
In 1992. the XK was sold to a long term owner in Cheshire. in need of restoration and almost one year later the work began with stripping the car down and removing the body from the chassis. Between March and August 1993. the bodyshell was professionally restored with various new panels and the rebuilt bodyshell re-mounted onto the chassis. The XK was then in storage for several months before work re-commenced in October of 1993.  Receipts for various mechanical works followed the body restoration. In 1997. the 3. 4 litre engine was stripped and rebuilt with new pistons and the cylinder head rebuilt. Whilst GJR 966 was on the road and in use. the long term owner continued to improve the XK and between 2003 and 2012 went to considerable expense further improving the car and ensuring it was ultra-useable and quite simply outstanding to drive. Very desirable upgrades to include a 5 speed Getrag gearbox. rack and pinion steering. front brake disc conversion. 123 ignition. Guy Broad extended pedal box and full stainless steel exhaust system were fitted to the car. Beautiful red leather bucket seats were also fitted and invoices for thousands of pounds worth of expenditure are in the vehicles history file. As a result of the upgrades. we can confirm this XK120 is truly wonderful to drive and we have carried out extensive road tests confirming this is a car ideal for long distance touring. The car handles superbly. has top class performance from the 3. 4 Jaguar engine and the 5 speed gearbox is beautiful to use with super smooth changes up and down the gearbox. The XK has excellent oil pressure. temperature is correct and the car sounds fantastic with a lovely exhaust note. The car is a true delight to drive and must be test driven. in over 20 years we have not had such a wonderful driving and more enjoyable XK120.
GJR 966 presents superbly and since its initial early 1990's rebuild. has been to the XK specialists who famously restored the most successful competition XK120 of all time. NUB 120. In 2006. they carefully prepared the bodyshell prior to a re-paint in 2007 and carried out mechanical work to include fitting new shock absorbers. We can confirm the bodyshell is in exceptional condition with superb panel gaps and shut lines. The chrome work is excellent. the paintwork gleams with a stunning finish and the upholstery is top class with stunning woodwork. excellent carpets. headlining. door cards and leather seats. The underbody is in superb condition. the engine bay clean and as expected on a high quality car that can be used and driven on a regular basis. We are delighted to offer GJR 966 onto the market as a beautifully presented. very strong XK that that is the ultimate long distance touring 120.  The XK comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate; MOT's dating back to 2005 confirming the car has covered 7000 miles in the past nine years. ‘buff' logbook and a comprehensive file of invoices detailing thousands of pounds worth of expenditure. A rare opportunity to purchase a highly desirable car that is ready to drive any distance.  
Please note the after market seats are not included in the sale and we currently have an orignal set of XK120 seats being re-upholstered in matching leather.
