1961 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MKI

This top class example has been subject of a full nut and bolt restoration that has taken over five years to complete. The car was in position to be MOT tested in November 2013 and between then and August 2015 just four miles were completed.  Since August the Healey has been covering running in miles and we are currently evaluating the car.

There is no doubt the restoration has been carried out to an outstanding standard and the car has also been rebuilt to an impressive specification. The total nut and bolt rebuild started with a brand new chassis. fitted with new adjustable front shock absorber mounts (camber adjustment). New inner. intermediate and outer sills were fitted and the main floors. boot floor. boot side panels were all re-blasted. etch primed. re-primed. stone chipped on the underside and sprayed body colour. The outer body was treated to new aluminium front wings with vents. doors. rear wings. boot and bonnet. All new panels were etch primed on the inside. stone chipped and painted body colour. All bright work was re-chromed or replaced and the car was fully re-painted in Ecurie Ecosse Blue.

The Healey is fast. impressive on the road and something very special. A huge level of expenditure has gone into the running gear and expensive modifications and upgrades have been carried out. The cylinder head has been fitted with hardened seats. bronze guides. new valves and a new rocker shaft has been fitted. The cylinder block was re-bored and the crankshaft re-ground and balanced. The engine has had a rear main oil seal conversion and a new Denis Welch oil pump and timing chain have been fitted. The engine also boats a Piper fast road camshaft and aluminium sump. The gearbox has been rebuilt and fitted with a Tulip straight cut gear set and the overdrive unit has been re-conditioned. The Healey has also been fitted with a Quaife limited slip differential and a Denis Welch exhaust system including manifold. The Healey has Type 16 brake callipers. all new cylinders plus servo. rear disc brake conversion and Aeroquip brake hoses. New rear springs. re-conditioned shock absorbers. new king pins and trunions and all new poly bushes have been fitted. a new steering box with new rod ends has been fitted and the cooling system improved with a new radiator with updated core. aluminium expansion tank and a five beaded harmonically balanced cooling fan. Triple HD8 carburettors on an early type works manifold have been fitted and the car also has a new aluminium 80 litre fuel tank and new Facet fuel pump with filter regulator. This impressive car has also had a brand new wiring loom. rebuilt starter motor. rebuilt wiper motor. new alternator. and all lamps are new or re-conditioned. The interior has been re-trimmed in Blue leather with Blue carpets and tonneu cover and all instruments have been re-furbished.

The results of this non expense restoration are truly fantastic. The Austin Healey is unbelievably quick. great fun to drive and offers a whole different level of Healey performance in every respect. The mechanical condition of the car is first class with components either new or as new and the car presents in first class order with a perfect underside. exceptional body. first class paintwork and chrome. The engine bay is highly detailed and very impressive. as is the boot area. The interior has been professionally re-trimmed and wheels and tyres are new. A restoration of this standard and quality could cost in the region of £100. 00 so this modified Healey offers an excellent opportunity having covered less than 50 miles since completion.
