1970 Ford Mustang

Mach 1 Cobra Jet

Factory 428 “R” code RAM AIR

 Shaker. Original paint

This has to be one of a very few California “R” code cars around in original paint. If I had to relate this car with a person. it would be the Bruce Jenner of Muscle Cars. the unmolested original version. Don't get me wrong. I like restored cars and there are a few nice restored Cobra Jets out there for sale. I just prefer to see exactly what I'm getting. (if you know what I mean!!!) With this car. what you see is what you get. nothing hiding under shiny new paint and all original metal. no Taiwanese replacement panels or patches. Nothing added. nothing removed. This is the real deal. this car is Mustang gold and it's priced on the money!!! We're selling it as you see it in the photos. in original paint or I can have the car painted for you at your expense. you choose. I have quotes to straighten the dings and paint the car. Our painter is good. very reasonable and he will not stuff you around!!!

VIN is OR05R124111. double “R” code car that was made in San Jose. California and sold new in Los Angeles. CA. Until it came to Australia in 2006. this car lived its life in sunny southern California. Do your research you will find that the San Jose Cobra Jets are quite rare. my research shows that only around 320 “R” code Mustangs were produced from this plant 1970. This is indeed a rare machine. Body wise the car retains all original metal. The paint is original with gorgeous patina in spots but could be easily painted if need be. It's one of those cars that's almost too good and original to paint but on the other hand is too good not to paint. The new owner will have to make this decision. The car does have several door dings and a few dents most of them probably happened in storage. there are about 5 dings on the roof that looks like someone has stored something on top of the car while the car was sitting…Doooooh! You can see this in the photos but these are minor dings and there is no sign of filler or accident repair. I've taken a magnet right around the car and it passes the test with flying colours. Rust wise. there is a small area of rust on both sides of the rear quarters in the corners at the rear of the wheel arch. Nothing major but would probably need attention if you were to paint the car or not. The other spots if rust are the two drain holes in the trunk will need to be plated and there is a slight area at the bottom right corner of the rear window. You should be able to see this in the photos. Overall body wise the car is gold. what you see is what you get. Unrestored cars like this are all the rage these days and they are definitely the cars that pull the big auction dollars in the USA. Engine is the original 428CJ and has been completely rebuilt sometime in the early 00's. when the motor was out the engine bay was restored and painted. There is nothing to do here. the engine bay presents very well and the car runs great. I could safely say that the car has done less than 5000 miles since the engine was done. probably much less but just call it 5k to be safe. On the road. the first you will notice is how nice it drives. I was impressed. The car performs as you would expect from a 428CJ. transmission shifts smoothly and there is no excessive play in the front end. The car sits well on the road and handles fine. power steering is smooth. brakes are a bit spongy but probably just need fresh fluid and bleeding. Other than that. very nice on the road. All of the gauges. lights. indicators. interior lights. taillights. reverse light. dash lights. horn etc. are working. Windows wind up and down with ease. glass is good. both doors lock and unlock with the ignition key and the trunk key does its job well. You will not be disappointed in the drive. Interior is original and very nice. You can see the dash pad has a crack on the top and there is a crack along the side of the perforated speaker are in the middle. It's still soft and could be repaired or you could just put one of those molded dash skins over the top. Seats are in great shape. gauges are good. the bezel chromes are still bright and shiney. console and door trims are very nice as well. The headliner is very nice. quarter sail areas and parcel shelf are good. Carpet is original and good for it's age but shows normal wear as you would expect form a 45 year old piece of carpet. The only thing I can pick that would need replacing is the drivers side kick panel is pretty deteriorated and beyond restoration. Overall the interior is very nice and I would leave it as it is. So here it is. 1970 Mach 1 Cobra Jet. original paint. restored under the hood. very good mechanically. very nice original interior. You can 1). Drive it like it is. 2). Spend a couple of grand with the paintless dent remover to get the dents out and drive it like that. 3). Spend $4k and get the dents out and repair the rust areas and drive it. 4). Get the dents out. repair the rust issue areas. paint the car and have a $90k Cobra Jet that owes you around $80k  Your Choice
