From 1936 until 1946 GUL76 was with H. W. Alliot of Langley Lodge in Westcliff on Sea – little is known of this person but after WWII the 2nd owner (1946/52) was Lt Col. Henry Charles Minshull Stockdale whose illustrious family tree can be traced back via his mother's family - Florence Margaret Rose Villiers - a direct descendant of Lady Isabel Plantagenet to none other than Edward II of England! The Stockdale family home. Mears Ashby Hall in Northampton was built in 1637 for Thomas Clendon but by the mid 1600s the Hall was home to the Stockdale family who remained there until 1995!. During their time at Mears Ashby events included “The trial of Sarah Bradshaw” who was alleged to have been a witch & from 1794 to 1796 Robert Stockdale & his pupil John Bacon Sawrey Morritt (heir to Rokeby Park) took a “Grand Tour” travelling through Austria. Hungary. Turkey. Greece. and Italy - the pair were later joined by Rev Dalloway to assist in their search for the location of the fabled City of Troy. In the mid 1800s the architect Anthony Salvin (known for his work on Windsor Castle & Tower of London) was commissioned to extend Mears Ashby Hall by adding another wing. Careers of the Stockdale family were in the areas of Religion. Army. Law & Land. The 3rd owner of GUL76 was Samuel Page Steavenson about whom little can be found but his Uncle Arthur was a Director of Bearpark Coal & Coke Co. a Doctor and in retirement became Master of Old Berkshire Hunt with whom the Duke of Windsor hunted!. In 1957 GUL57 joined her 4th family with whom she remained until 2012 – in 1978 when E H J Humphreys of Canford Cliffs died the car was inherited by his son-in-law Tom Craig (an inventor of aircraft equipment) who in turn left the car to his widow. the daughter of E Humphreys. During her time with the family GUL57 resided at Canford Cliffs. the development of which was started in 1886 by group of Bournemouth businessmen and when with Tom Craig was in Loanhead. Midlothian – the village dates back to 1600 with the main industry being limestone. coal & paper. In 1723 William Adams designed & built Mavisbank House for Sir Clerk - it was the first Palladian Villa in Scotland but is now derelict. Notable people from Loanhead include George Forrest (1873–1932). a plant collector and Sir William MacTaggart (1903–1981). artist.
