FOR SALE: Renault 5 Turbo 1981

EQUIPMENT
Electric front windows. pop-out rear windows. CD player. Map light. Numbered plaque. Ash tray. Cigarette lighter. Lockable glove compartment. Spare wheel.

EXTERIOR
This unmistakable 80s super-hatch is finished in gorgeous Olympe Blue metallic. contrasting nicely against the bumpers. Turbo decals. and trim. The overall aesthetic is dazzling to say the least. and remains untainted by any scuffs or scrapes.

On close inspection all panels line up exactly as they should. The lightweight aluminium doors and roof remain straight. with the fibreglass flared wings and vented bonnet presenting well too. Undoubtedly the car is in wonderful condition throughout. maintaining a corrosion-free body and underside.

INTERIOR
Having more in common with an 80's concept car than a small French hatchback. the interior of the Turbo is beautifully appointed in red and blue. The seats are perfectly in keeping with the vibrant exterior; the original upholstery is in first-rate condition. showing little or no wear to the cloth centres or vinyl bolsters.

Aside from some expected discolouration to the carpets the interior presents extremely well. The dash and centre console are in good order with zero fading to note; the fabric door cards and headlining are also free from any marks. The central plaque shows this example to be number 1091 off the production line.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The centrally mounted 1397cc unit in the Turbo was derived from the Renault 5 Alpine hot hatch. known as the Gordini in the UK. Using a modified Lancia Stratos as a testbed. Renault began work on increasing the engine's output from a normally aspirated 93hp to a turbocharged 158hp; the result is what you see here.

Neatly enclosed behind the front seats the engine is hidden away by carpeted panels. which are easily removable using a special Allen key. The engine itself is in excellent order and has never been modified. What's more the gearbox still feels tight and precise. which is not surprising given the car's low mileage.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
The Turbo sits on the original set of alloy wheels. colour-matched in blue to the external trim. Having recently benefitted from a full refurbishment the wheels present absolutely as new. with a glistening diamond cut finish.

The alloys are shod in a matching set of Michelin TRX tyres all round. as per the original factory specification. Presenting with ample tread the tyres remain in good order.

HISTORY FILE
This example was first registered on 15th September 1981 and has covered just 57. 39km. or 35. 15 miles. since then. Throughout its life the car remained in Europe. leaving Italy for a private Belgian collection earlier this year. The car has now been imported into the UK by 4 Star.

Present in the history file is an original R5 Turbo sales brochure as well an identity card from the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano). Unfortunately the service book has been lost however there is evidence of regular maintenance from the service stickers present in the driver's door shut. Since arriving at 4 Star the vehicle has received our usual full inspection and proves to be in excellent mechanical fettle.
