The first 'S-class' Mercedes-Benz arrived in 1968 in the form of
the 280 S and 280 SE which were large comfortable sports saloons
offering powerful touring capabilities and luxurious interiors with
space to seat five occupants. Known as W 108/109 models. they were
constructed on 108" wheelbase and the new S-Class saloons were much
heavier than earlier models. The styling was updated using a
thoroughly modern design featuring the attractive stacked layout of
the headlights which was popular during the period. Although the
280 was usually powered by a 2. 8 litre straight six engine. br/>Mercedes-Benz added a V8 engined 280 SE to the model range with
both automatic and manual transmission and power steering. These
saloons were well equipped and extremely powerful. The 280 SE. 3. 5
would reach a top-speed of 125mph and offered effortless high-speed
cruising mated with supple ride comfort. Between 1971 and 1972
Mercedes-Benz produced 11. 09 examples and they have always been
popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This elegant touring Mercedes-Benz represents one of just 68
righthand drive examples and. as such. is hugely collectable. It
also benefits from electric windows and power steering with its day
to day upkeep looked after by Mercedes-Benz specialist. Steve
Redfearn. Indeed under his expert eye. it underwent a seating
re-trim. fresh carpets and some renovation of the wooden elements
of the interior. Looking through the history file. there are
receipts from Steve Redfearn. Nigel Cooper. Broome Brothers and
Allhoods totalling a staggering £90. 00 with £25. 00 of that spent
in the last 12 months. Overall. the condition is best described as
excellent in every respect and an inspection in person is highly
recommended.
