The origins of the Corniche came from the continuation of the
1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow fixedhead coupé and 1967 drophead
coupé. constructed by the famed coachbuilder Mulliner Park Ward in
London. The car was named after the stunning roads along the
Cote d'Azur in France and was an elegant two-door design available
with either a coupé or convertible body. By 1982. the coupé
had ceased production but convertibles continued to be built until
1996. The first Rolls-Royce to wear the Corniche name was a 1939
prototype based on the Bentley Mk. V. although this was never
produced due to the onset of World War II. The car used the
standard Rolls-Royce V8 engine as fitted to the Silver Shadow and
had an aluminium-silicon alloy block and aluminium cylinder heads
with cast iron wet cylinder liners. The fuel system was in the form
of twin SU carburettors which were later replaced with Bosch fuel
injection from 1980 onwards.

This splendid Corniche. presented in Porcelain White coachwork
with parchment hide interior and contrasting dark blue mohair power
hood. was originally sold and fastidiously cared for by Appleyard
of Leeds Rolls-Royce. A clearly cherished example. br/>there are eight stamps present in the service schedule book up to
1984 and 51. 69 miles. In the summer of 1984. a successful
nightclub owner purchased the Corniche and decided upon a number of
upgrades to suit his lifestyle including having all woodwork
stripped. lacquered and polished before refitting alongside a
bespoke Blaupunkt radio cassette system and BT mobile car phone
(still present to this day) as well as a new steering wheel. new
clocks and rather expensive wire wheels. The plan to upgrade and
dye the veneered woodwork to blue appears to have been put to one
side after the raft of original upgrades; also during this
extensive dash-work. the speedometer was replaced with the mileage
therefore becoming zero. the mileage from that day forth was
considered plus an estimated 55. 00 miles with paperwork to
demonstrate this. With new ownership and its new upgrades. this
example covered very few miles between 1985 and 1995 with just a
further 13. 00 miles being added. Since then. it has been
predominantly garaged but for regular MoT tests leaving the
speedometer reading of just 13. 87 (est. total 68. 87 miles) to
date. It has recently had a service with Brooklands Garage
which included a new rear sub-frame. renewal of all brake pipes. br/>fuel hoses and even replacement of a new air conditioning
compressor; the service and maintenance was extensive and as such
should instil confidence in any prospective buyer. This fine
Corniche is accompanied by an MoT test certificate expiring in
October 2016. original handbooks. a wealth of other MoT test
certificates to help warrant the mileage and a bespoke car cover is
even offered to keep her warm this winter!
