Once you've read the history of YGY23S you will see that it's had the life that Jaguar intended – the Chairman's choice!

30th August 1977/S. Finished in Amethyst with Deep Olive leather trim. Extras include deep luxurious specially trimmed interior by Vanden Plas and painted in one of unique colours from their range. In more depth this included their own styling of front/rear seating. Wilton carpets. Asian burr walnut veneers with inlays to the door fillets. rear individual reading lamps and armrests for all occupants. Other extras include air conditioning. 4 electric windows. remote door mirrors. front Cibie fog lamps. Philips radio cassette/4 speakers. leather grained vinyl roof. chrome waistband with hand painted coachline. tinted glass. front/rear cigar lighters. anti dazzle mirror and optional chrome pressed steel wheels – which ours has.

From the age of 8 years old all I ever wanted was a series 2 Daimler Double-Six VDP and its been a dream come true owning this car for the past 2 years and covering over 1000 trouble free miles. I've had to make this painful decision to part with one of my Daimlers as its really not practical owning 2 very similar examples. My other Daimler isn't a VDP unfortunately. but as I've owned it for over 20 years I just cannot bear to part with it. The last picture in the gallery is of the inside cover of one of my car books from when I was 10 years old – so you can really see what YGY23S means to me :-( .

Originally registered BGO 7 and bought new on the 30th August 1977 by Barber Greene LTD (Still in business) for their chairman to be chauffeured in while on business. They covered 35. 00 miles before selling it in late 1979 (with reg BGO 7) to the Bank of Boston for their president to be chauffeured in. The bank only covered 8. 00 in their 18 year ownership before selling it in 1997 (still with BGO 7) to the London insurance company Spearpoint Bland for their director to be chauffeured in - Check out the wear on the n/s rear seat – this unrestored original patina so much more beautiful than a restored car with brand new leather and think of all those business decisions made while they sat on that actual seat. During Spearpoint Blands ownership the registration BGO 7 was removed and re registered as YGY23S. They covered only 2. 00 miles in their 5 years of ownership before selling it to Mr Mancini of Surrey. who is the gentleman I purchased it from. So many VDP models I view have lost some of the original less well known VDP equipment. such as the mat black under the bonnet/engine bay. hand painted coachlines. colour coded windscreen air vent and front fog lamps but this car retains everything it was built with. The moment I first saw YGY23S I could tell that its 4 owners had most definitely cherished it and its huge history file is testament to this.

I have pretty much every issued MOT and even its first one from 1980. I also have most of the service receipts and a fully stamped service record @ 1k. 3k. 6k. 9k. 12k. 15k. 18k. 21k. 25k. 34k. 37k. 38k. 39k. 40k. 41k (3 services). 42k (6 yes 6 services). 43k. 44k. 50k. 52k. 55k. 57k. 64 and 65k.

The average U. K house price in August 1977 was £13. 00 and YGY23S cost £13629. The standard Daimler Double-Six 5. 3 cost £10376 so for the privilege of having a Vanden Plas model cost an extra £3253 or which was the price of a new Ford Granada 2000! That's how special this car is! Car magazine famously wrote in their Sept 77 issue “Britain still makes the best car in the world…. but its not the Rolls Royce!

When you see what some classic cars sell for. like 15k for a Citroen 2CV or 25k for a MK1 Escort. these V12 Jaguars should be 50k. Grab a bargain while you still can!
