With only 2 owners since it's import in 2005. this fantastic example is presented in beautiful gold paintwork with complementing tan leather interior and is supplied with an exhaustive history file documenting all historic expenditiure. including a detailed inspection undertaken by the RAC upon importation.

Having covered a mere 44. 00 miles since new. this exquisite SM is in rarely seen mechanical. cosmetic and structural condition and is a must see for those individuals looking for one of the best examples currently available.

In 1968. Citroen purchased Maserati with plans to take advantage of the Italian company's experience with high-performance engines. Citroen knew that its staid engines didn't do justice to its cars' advanced designs. This was less of a problem in a saloon like the DS. but an opulent GT machine like the SM would have made no sense without a suitably charismatic engine. The wonderfully smooth Maserati 2670cc V6 helped turn the SM into a world-class grand touring car that supplemented a signature Citroen package with some bought-in Italian charm. and made the SM the fastest front wheel drive car the World had seen.

In 5 years of production. Citroen produced just under 13. 00 examples. Following the oil crisis of 1973. the carmaker ran into financial difficulties and in 1974 Peugeot absorbed Citroen. A strange and wonderful era had ended. taking with it one of the most exciting and belligerently individualistic Citroens ever created.
