When the MGA arrived in 1955. it must have come as quite a shock
to MG aficionados who had become accustomed to the pre-war look of
the company's sports cars. It was a complete departure in styling
and its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in
terms of appearance. It was powered by a new engine; MG had decided
that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much
more modern B-series engine that had made its debut in the recently
announced Magnette saloon. A high-performance Twin-Cam model
was added for 1958. propelled by a high-compression DOHC aluminium
cylinder head version of the B-Series engine and producing 108hp.
Four-wheel disc brakes by Dunlop were also fitted along with Dunlop
peg drive knock-off steel wheels. similar to wheels used on racing
Jaguars and unique to the highly desirable Twin-Cam model. Aside
from the wheels. the only outside identifier was a 'Twin-Cam' logo
near the vent aside the bonnet.

Originally a righthand drive. UK-market model. this Twin Cam
roadster was purchased from the CCHL dealership in the UK in 2010
and converted to lefthand drive in 2012/2013 at which time the
engine was rebuilt and the interior refurbished. The engine rebuild
included a re-bore; new low-compression pistons (for enhanced
reliability). crankshaft re-grind and balance (together with the
flywheel). all new bearings. cylinder head overhaul with new
valves. fitting twin Weber carburettors and finally. an appropriate
manifold. Prior to its 2010 sale to the previous owner in Finland. br/>the MG. registered 'XLW 796'. had been owned since 1975 by Richard
Oliver of Tunbridge Wells. Described as in generally good
condition. the car is offered with sundry restoration invoices. br/>full weather equipment. a stainless steel exhaust. a 12 month MoT
test certificate and fresh UK registration
documents.
