The Quattroporte was introduced at the October-November 1963
Turin Motor Show. where a pre-production prototype was on the
Maserati stand next to the Mistral coupé. Regular production began
in 1964. The Tipo 107 Quattroporte joined two other grand tourers. br/>the Facel Vega and the Lagonda Rapide and was capable of travelling
at 124mph on the new motorways in Europe. It was equipped with a
4. 1-litre. V8 engine. producing 260hp at 5000rpm and either a
five-speed ZF manual transmission or a three-speed Borg Warner
automatic on request. In 1966. Maserati revised the Tipo 107. br/>adding the twin headlights already used on the U. S. model. A
leaf-sprung solid axle took place of the previous De Dion tube. The
interior was completely redesigned including the dashboard which
now had a full width wood-trimmed fascia.

This rare righthand drive Series II Quattroporte is
fitted with the 4. 1 litre engine and was delivered via French
importer. 'Agence Maserati'. Thepenier to His Highness Prince
Karim Aga Khan on 28th December 1967 as a present to his mother. br/>Princess Joan Aly Khan. later to become. via a second marriage. the
Viscountess Camrose. Although ordered and delivered through
Maserati Paris. the factory confirms that the car is an original
righthand drive example. finished in dark blue with biege leather
interior and first registered as SHM 24F (as it remains today) on
10th January 1968 to Princess Aly Khan at Eaton Square. London. The
car remained in single ownership for a further 25 years during
which time the Princess re-married to the 2nd Viscount Camrose. the
former chairman of the Daily Telegraph. The car returned to the
factory in Modena in July 1971 for a maintenance check prior to
going into dry storage in 1972. although it was frequently driven
around the Hackwood Estate. It was subsequently purchased direct
from Viscountess Camrose by the second owner J. H. D. Shorten of Lamb
Brocks Solicitors. Basingstoke. Hampshire in 1993. In 2004. the car
was with Richard Bagshawe Shepherd. Reading. The mileage upon
purchase in 1993 was 20. 18 kilometres as shown on an MoT test
certificate from March of that year and it has subsequently covered
a total of 45. 00 kilometres (28. 25 miles) at the last MoT which
was carried out in July 2015. The car is accompanied by 17 old MoT
certificates confirming the low mileage. The car has been well
maintained including an engine rebuild by Maserati specialists in
1999 and is supplied with many other bills for work carried out
including invoices from respected Maserati specialist Bill McGrath.
Garaged. serviced and driven every year since 1993. it has been on
two major journeys; one to France of 1. 00 miles and the other to
Scotland totalling 2. 00 miles and gave trouble free motoring.
The car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file
including the original log book with Princess Aly Khan listed as
the first owner along with a current V5C registration document. The
file also contains a signed letter from Lady Camrose to the
previous owner confirming the sale of the car in January 1993.
Certainly the rarest. most important and unique Quattroporte. this
stunningly original car boasts extraordinarily low mileage and a
detailed and significant history file along with ownership history
from one of the most evocative names of the 20th century. A fine
investment opportunity.
