You are bidding on a 1961 MGA 1600 MK1. this is the fourth car that I have sold through Ebay from my car collection that I started over 45 years ago (previously sold: Triumph Spitfire. Lotus Europa & an Austin Healey in the last 4 months).
This MGA is my wife's summer toy & has been for the last 17 years. she drives it on a regular basis & frequents many of the local car cruises & British car events. The MG has an interesting history which started in Paris. France. hence the nickname my wife has given her; "Paris. "
Purchased new by a Movie Producer that lived both in the United States & Europe. the MG was purchased from the factory in England as a left hand drive. export model as the owner had intentions of bringing the car to either the US or Canada once leaving Europe. The car was picked up at the MG factory on June 29th. 1960 by the owner who then drove the car through parts of Europe to its final destination in Paris. France. The MG was shipped to Toronto. Ontario. Canada in 1965 by boat along with the owner's other personal belongings. The complete 'Provenance' current to my ownership of the car will be provided with the sale.
The MGA is an extremely original car. Matching Numbers & with only one re-spray in 1979 from its original black to its current Old English White. The interior is sporting the 'original red leather seats' that are in superb condition & a testament to the loving care that this MGA has received over the many decades. The door/kick panels. cockpit rails are newly covered along with a carpet replacement & all door seals & rubber trim pieces.
The dashboard & grille were changed out for the newer & more distinct MKII version(s) in 1972 by the 2nd owner. These are the only non-original components on the car.
The MG runs & drives beautifully & is safe. reliable & can be driven anywhere with confidence. It received an extensive engine rebuild at 65. 0 miles & a complete new clutch & related components were replaced in 2013. the MG has traveled only 500 miles since the clutch replacement. Oil pressure is between 50-60lbs hot & 25-30lbs at idle. It shifts up/down smoothly through all of the gears with no rattling in 1st or reverse gears.
The chrome wire wheels & Coker wide whites were installed in 2012 at a cost of just over $3. 00. 00 both the wheels & tires are in new condition.
This MGA is a turn-key. first class driver quality car that requires no mechanical work at all. it could use a fresh paint job to bring it to the standards of the rest of the car. I have taken a few pics of the worst spots of the paint. however. most people that see the car say: "leave it as is. it has great patina & suits the look of the car". My wife likes it as is. no worries about stone chips or dragging her purse along the fender un-noticeably.
The MG has never been in an accident. the frame is solid & straight with no signs of rust through or past repairs. the battery boxes are in place & solid with only surface rust.
Currently registered with NAMGAR (North American MGA Register) & holds registration # 5694. You can view pics of the car by visiting the NAMGAR website. I have personally been a member of NAMGAR since 1975 & hold membership # 336.
It is a numbers matching car & has the 'Heritage Certificate' to verify the noted chassis #. build & dispatch dates including factory colors & trim.
I have pictures of the MG wearing its European front & rear bumper guards. grille guard & modified European license plate holder from its former life in Europe.
Documented provenance & extensive photo gallery of the MG's history & improvements since 1972. Original Driver's handbook (original to this car) goes with it.
Upgraded stereo with CD player. built-in equalizer. remote control & complimentary door speakers. 'power converter' mounted next to the stereo under dash (converts the positive ground to negative ground) to allow for a modern day sound system. a must for my wife's listening pleasure.
Please fell free to ask as many questions as you like. more pics are available beyond what the Ebay auction shows. they may be requested by sending me your personal email address. I can also provide a list of new parts. restoration work completed & items rebuilt dating back to 1972 by each owner. the list is to long to publish in this ad.
My wife & I are reluctantly selling this MGA (as we did the others). but given my age & desire to reduce my car collection & to focus on just a handful of my long term favorites it is time for it to go to a new home.
My opening auction price is less than what I have invested in this car & you would be hard pressed to find one comparable for the same price.
I have tried to take pics of all aspects of the car including the underside however. I don't have a hoist & took them by lying underneath. If you want specific pics please feel free to ask. I will do my best to accommodate.
Given that I am Given that I am located in Canada. some US and offshore buyers maybe reluctant to bid given the border crossing and or importation paperwork required to import the vehicle to their home destination… I can assist with providing the buyer with contact information to an international transportation company (specializing in relocating vintage & classic cars worldwide) that will safely and at a reasonable cost transport the vehicle  I have personally used this company several times and have been extremely pleased with the pick-up & delivery.
