Hillsboro was named after the Wills Hills family. the Earl of Hillsborough was Britain's Secretary Of State for the Colonies (1768/72) a critical period leading towards the War of Independence – The Earl was a fervent opponent of American independence! The legend of the name Pompano is that it was that Frank Sheene. a railway employee. jotted down on his survey the name of the fish that he had just eaten for his dinner!
