1963 MG TF Triumph Gentry

Completely Rebuilt from the Chassis upward 15 years ago (1999) by an Engineer enthusiast in Newcastle.

He rebuilt the Engine. 4 speed Gearbox. Clutch. and overhauled everything including a new wiring loom. The engine is in traditional build for Leaded Fuel which means that it needs a small amount of additive with modern unleaded petrol to prevent pinking.

I bought the car from him after its completion and have Garaged it ever since. It has only done 10. 00 miles as it was used very much a “Sunday car”. It has never been used in wet weather. Sadly. circumstances change. and she has not been driven in the last 5 years.

A New Battery started it. and the brakes have been overhauled. Anything that needed greasing was greased and it has just passed an MOT. Now fitted with discreet Period Chrome Washers for the upgraded MOT. with new front wheel bearings and suspension trunnion as there was a “tiny” amount of movement. Underneath. see picture 12. the original chassis is still in good order. still in its paint finish but with a few odd stones chips.

These vehicles have an aluminium body and glassfibre wings and running board. so they are easy to maintain.

It has silver wire wheels with correct knock on hubs and tubed tyres. The wire wheels now have slight blemishes due to storage but have hardly been used. I would estimate about 5. 00 miles. the tyres still have the sprues on them. There is a secret foot locker that contains the knock on hubs hide hammer and scissors jack.

This is listed as an Historic Vehicle. so Free Road Tax.

The split bonnet is secured with traditional square brass T keys - shown in the Engine shots and the engine compartment has stainless steel panels. All the Chrome is good with a slight amount of pitting to the original MG bumpers and over riders. The rear bumper has a slight crease but I am assured that this could be removed - see rear pictures. Original MG grill with filler cap. not a Gentry grill. Slab tank with Sports style Filler cap and Chrome edging and stainless steel banding.

Overall condition is good with fair paintwork and a few stone chips to the wings. Interior is very tidy with reconditioned bucket seats and a tan carpet. The rear is a carpeted tub with access panels to the fuel tank electrics and rear axle diff. There are removable foam squabs inside this to make a rear seat and seat back. This means that you can remove the squabs if you have a lot of luggage to carry.  The hood was new when purchased and. though a little faded. there are no holes or rips and the windows are all good. The hood frame folds and the whole thing slots into support tubes and along with the side screens. which are in fair condition. easily removed and replaced.

Everything Works - Speedo. Rev counter. Oil Pressure (good). Fuel gauge reads three quarters when Full. Even the Heater works.

Please remember that this is a 50 year old vehicle and does not drive like a modern one.

There is no power steering though the steering is light.

It has drum brakes all round - no discs so it stops correctly. but slower than a modern car.

This is a tiny 1200 engine with a steel chassis - so it is not quick.

On the other hand it smells great. and sounds very fruity!

It turns heads and is flashed by every other MG you meet. also by every other Old vehicle you meet.

If you have any questions please email or ring me on the mobile 07710 430 395.
