This is a 1972 Volkswagen Standard Beetle.

It has an AE Code 1600cc engine. carbed. and a 4 speed manual. It is completely stock and in good condition. I would label it a 7/10. or perhaps a 3. 5/5 on the KBB scale. It shows just under 60. 00 miles. this is unverified on a 5 digit odometer. The vehicle has a clean title and is registered in my name in Vancouver. BC. Canada. I have daily driven the vehicle and I am confident in its abilities to travel long distances as well as any other 40+ year old car. Get AAA Gold and drive it home anywhere. On flat freeway I have had her to 75 MPH (120 KPH). she cruises 65 (104 KPH) easy.

BODY

The body appears to have received a driver-quality restoration about ten years ago. There is virtually zero structural rust. Any repairs have been done well enough that I can't point to any area and say "there's been work done there. " The pans are completely solid. The channels are completely solid. The heat works fine. Yes. fine. I drove it to work all December and the heater. after 5 minutes of driving. would keep the windows de-fogged and myself temperate. There is a small area of rust surrounding the driver's side headlight; I recommend replacement of this fender one day. far away. The paint is just average. There is fading. some sun cracking on the red fenders. and superficial scratches. Personally. I think that a fresh paintjob is the key to turning this into a much higher dollar car but from 10 feet it is shiny. The chrome is in good shape except the bumpers which were not restored (they used ugly body coloured bumpers that come w car) and show pitting and wear.

INTERIOR

The interior is half new and half gone. in a good way. The seats (vinyl). door cards. rear panel cards. dashboard. and steering wheel all appear to have been replaced during the aforementioned restoration process. The headliner is in very nice shape. white. How flooring is a little unique -- it is painted as the body is. in two tone. and there are VW issue rubber mats in the bottom of the pans but no carpeting anywhere. or sound deadening. This makes for a nosier ride. however you are able to see any moisture. condensation. or rust creeping up. I attribute the rust free pans to the lack of carpet. If carpet is a must have for you. kits are available between 150-1000 online depending on desired quality. All glass in intact and good. All accessories work. There is NO: Radio. speakers. glove box liner. trunk liner.

MECHANICAL

This Bug is in daily driver shape. I drove it 5 days a week to my job in downtown Vancouver and he did very well. The engine is tight. burns clean. starts well at all temps. gets 25 MPG. Transmission shifts okay. does not grind gears and does not slip out of any gear. Does NOT slip out of 2nd or reverse under heavy load (tested). I double clutch it. but it doesn't have to be double clutched. Brakes stop the car perfectly straight with no pull. Steering is surprisingly tight and respondant. Tires are older but have good tread and hold air between checks. and the spare is present and has not been used. Your own inspection would be best as I am not a lifelong VW owner. Basics have just been done (spark plug wires. distrib cap. gen belt) and you can tell when looking at the motor that parts like alternator. etc. were replaced during the older restoration. I recently rebuilt the wiper motor mechanism (a bitch of a job that you have to do every 5 years or so).

ALSO

I have an entire cupboard full of parts that came with the car. They are the leftover parts from the old restoration. There are a lot of valuable parts inside. including many that elude my knowledge. For starters. there's: two door skins (L+R). one decklid. rear window glass w defroster. one side window. luggage rack. second set of bumpers in body red colour. second set of all chrome in body red colour. another gasoline heater for parts. ducting and wiring harnesses. most of the interior knicks (mirrors. handles. ashtray. etc). what I believe to be resonators. etc. Basically you should bring a van or SUV. Comes w/ How to Keep Your VW Alive and the Chilton.

I am selling the Beetle because I already have three cars. Realistically I probably shouldn't even have one car. so I really should sell at least some of the superfluous ones. . . I have made videos. photos. and put a lot of text in to portray this car accurately. It will not win a show but it gets a lot of attention. is very reliable. and with a paintjob (or even just a real cut polish) it would look at home at most car shows!
