Registered 1955 this incredible Jaguar D Type by Wingfield was commisioned by the late Henry Taylor famous racing driver that raced TKF 9 the well known original D Type short-nose. he took the car to first place at Snetterton and third place at Spa. It then went to Border Rivers where it was put in the capable hands of Jim Clark. In 1986 Henry set Brian wingfield the task of re-creating his beloved TKF 9. with Wingfields unparalled experience of building D types and Taylor's experience of racing them. it was the perfect recipe for the ultimate D type. After it's build Henry campaigned the car in certain events in Europe. subsiquently the car ended up on the Cote D'azur where he had a Sunseeker agency. As recognition in his later years he was made vice president of the British Drivers Club. The car was sold to it's second owner and was sent to Switzerland. it is now in the UK and in fine order with it's beautifully hand crafted aluminium body and a lovely patina it wouldn't look out of place thundering down the Mulsanne straight.
This car looks. drives and sounds fantastic. The live rear end. highly tuned engine with racing cams. triple Weber's and side exhaust make driving this exotic car a wonderful experience. with it's provenence it represents great value and should be a solid investment for the future. especially with originals fetching as much as five million pounds and rapidly climbing.
(Motorsport Interview with Henry Taylor)
Henry Taylor has never forgotten the car which taught him so much. " I had so many fond memories of the car I wanted to buy it but ths was before it was done up and I didn't have the time to do the work. so someone said of course the person who can build a proper one is Brian Wingfield. I knew Brian from my time at Fords and I asked for the nearest possible Short-Nose replica. The exact car it was even down to the 3. 4 engine. It's given Peggy and I allot of pleasure. even doing the Manx Classic. It was built from a 1955 XK140 which is how the logbook reads"
Supplied wit the UK V5 but has also got French and Swiss papers if required to save on import duties.
