The Jaguar E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public
as a grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as a convertible
roadster. The 2+2 version with a lengthened wheelbase was released
several years later. Open headlights without glass covers. a
wrap-around rear bumper. re-positioned and larger front indicators
and tail lights below the bumpers. better cooling aided by an
enlarged 'mouth' and twin electric fans. together with up-rated
brakes are all hallmarks of Series II cars. The interior and
dashboard were also re-designed with rocker switches being
substituted for toggle switches. The dashboard switches also lost
their symmetrical layout. New seats were fitted which purists claim
lacked the style of the originals but were certainly more
comfortable and air conditioning and power steering were available
as factory options.

This matching numbers 1970 series II Roadster was purchased in
January 2013 in New York. the car was in pretty good condition and
very useable however the interior trim was the original and well
past its best. After arriving in the UK. the car was completely
stripped down and the body sent for bare metal preparation where it
was found to have very little rust or corrosion. The engine has
been completely striped and rebuilt with six new pistons. the crank
re-ground and fitted with all new bearings. seals including the
important 'rope seal'. The cylinder head was sent to specialist for
all new valves. springs and mild working of the inlet and exhaust
ports. The gearbox was sent to specialist company and had all new
internals including bearings and several gears. The rear suspension
was removed and all the suspension joints and rubbers changed and
the differential also sent for rebuild. the rear brakes renewed
including new disks and calliper rebuild. The rear shock absorbers
were also replaced and fitted with all new brake pipes and
ancillaries. The front suspension was completely stripped down and
rebuilt with new shock absorbers. all new suspension rubbers and
ball joints etc. All electrical components were sent for rebuild or
exchange units including new alternator and new high torque starter
motor. the speedo and rev. counter refurbished. During rebuild. an
auto electrician went from front to back checking every electrical
component and connection. The car originally had a twin Stromberg
carburettor set up and it was decided to fit triple weber's. these
alone cost nearly £3. 00. then the car was sent to be set up on a
rolling road by a well known tuning specialist. When it arrived
back from the body shop. the cockpit was completely lined with very
expensive sound deadening and heat resistant foil which is a real
bonus as it reflects all heat generated from the engine and
gearbox. It was then set about the rebuild of the car. the fuel
system had front to rear new fuel lines. a correct pressure fuel
pump to mate with triple weber 45 set up. brand new fuel tank and
all internal components. all new brake pipes front and rear new
flexible hoses. new handbrake cables new front and rear bumpers and
all new rubbers and seals. Finished in blue with the interior
fitted with bespoke soft red leather with matching wool carpets to
the original specification. a new mohair hood and matching tonneau
cover supplied in a complementary dark blue. All new woods in the
boot complete with beige Hydura covering as per original. It has
also been fitted with ultra rare genuine old stock Triplexx. top
tint. front windscreen with new rubbers and clips. The car sits on
chrome wire wheels with Michelin red wall tyres which compliment
the colour combination. This magnificent E-Type is supplied with a
V5C registration document. an MoT test certificate which expires in
February 2016. a heritage certificate confirming the matching
numbers. a file containing invoices and a photographic album of the
restoration. This is an excellent example of what Enzo Ferrari
called "The most beautiful car ever made. "
