The second incarnation of the Cortina was designed by Roy Haynes
and was launched on 18th October 1966. One of the best loved
versions of that Cortina appeared in 1967. the 1600E. which was
introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October of that year. The
mechanical specification included an 88bhp. 1600cc Cortina GT
engine which achieved a fuel consumption of 25 miles per gallon.
The 1600E interior came equally well equipped and included special
rear bucket seats. reclining front seats. sports steering wheel. br/>extra instruments and a wood trim. Production ended in 1970 and. br/>despite attempts at reviving the idea of an 'Executive' version of
other. later models. Ford never recaptured the original feel of the
Cortina Mk. II based 1600E. For 1969. the Mark II model was given
subtle revisions with separate 'FORD' block letters mounted on the
bonnet and boot lids. a blacked out grille and chrome strips above
and below the rear lights running the full width of the rear
panel.

This two family owned Mk. II 1600E has been the subject to a
recent cosmetic restoration by Brookfield Classics and a overhaul
of the cylinder head converting it to unleaded fuel. the vendor
also believes that other engine modifications have been carried out
due to the engine been fitted with two 40 DCOE Webber carburettors
and a four branch exhaust manifolds. Fitted with a black vinyl
roof. a Wabasto sunroof and period Wolfrace wheels. When
this Cortina was repainted in the original Aubergine purple. br/>the painters left the bonnet shuts showing the original stickers
and colour. The black interior is original and the car is supplied
with a V5c registration document. an MoT test certificate which
expires in January 2016 and a file which contains old registration
documents showing the ownership. old MoT certificates and a number
of invoices. This is a beautifully presented example of the highly
desirable and rare 1600E and certainly should be of interest to
anyone looking for a useable classic car to use in the UK or on the
Continent.
