The Ford Falcon outsold its rival compacts from Chrysler and
General Motors when it was introduced in the 1960's. It was powered
by a small. lightweight 90hp straight-six with a single-barrel
carburettor and recorded over half a million sold in the first year
and over a million sold by the end of the second year. The year
1961 saw two new models introduced; a bucket-seat and console sedan
model in a higher trim level called the Futura. and a sedan
delivery. The two-door Futura sedan. introduced in 1962. br/>sported a flat rear window in place of the panoramic window on
earlier models to bring its design in line with other Ford cars of
the era. A redesign changed the Falcon's looks for 1964 along with
the 289ci. V8 motor and it is this incarnation that we see here
today.

This example was a one owner vehicle from new from Oregon in the
USA. The owner then passed away in 2009 and the car ended up at an
auction in the UK. It was bought by the owner of a high-end sports
car dealer in Scarborough who owned it personally until April 2012
when it was. once again. sold. The car had been re-sprayed in 2000
in its original factory colour of Dynasty Green. a Ford pearlescent
pastel colour. The previous owner had some work done to it by a
well-known hot rod shop in the UK just before it was purchased by
the vendor. The works included front and rear suspension. front
disc brakes. wheels and tyres and a stainless steel exhaust system.
It remained largely unused during this time.

The previously fitted new circuit racing suspension system was
then removed. checked over and refitted correctly. all front
suspension bushes and the steering idler arm and bush were renewed
and the engine bay was then taken back to bare metal and fully
restored. Even the heater was removed and restored as well as its
internal motor. The engine was then replaced with a low mileage
289. V8 complete with original 1964 Cobra restored inlet manifold
with dual four-barrel Carter AFB 500 cfm carburettors and new
ancillaries all round including electronic ignition to the new
distributor. and an MSD unit hidden from view behind the glove
box.

The Ford C4 gearbox. which had also been previously fitted at
some point in place of the original Fordomatic. was checked over
and had a quick shift kit installed. The column shift was retained
for the old school. original look. Both prop universal joints were
replaced and the petrol tank was uprated to a 16 gallon unit to
give more miles between fill-ups!

Attention was next applied to the original interior with the
dash only being resprayed and everything else meticulously cleaned.
The Rocket Ignitor wheels were highly polished and re-fitted and
the paint was then professionally cut back and polished with superb
results.
As a result of this process. it has featured in magazine articles
and even a film entitled. 'Falcon'. It has also been well received
at many car shows since 2012 and has won many trophies as a result
including the Judges Choice at the Hot Rod Nationals in Ipswich
last year. Quite an accolade.
