1953 Bentley R-Type Standard Steel Saloon for sale
Current customer rating: (383 votes ) based onBentley Motors Limited was founded on 18th January 1919 by
Walter Owen Bentley known as W. O. Bentley or just 'W. O. ' Bentley
had been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines in
World War I. the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in later
versions of the Sopwith Camel. After the war W. O. Bentley designed
and made production cars that won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1924 and
following models which repeated those successes each June 1927. br/>1928. 1929 and 1930. The R-Type is the second series of post-war
Bentleys. replacing the Mk. VI. Essentially a larger-boot version
of the Mk. VI. the R-type is regarded by some as a stop-gap before
the introduction of the S-Series cars in 1955. As with its
predecessor. a standard body was available as well as coachbuilt
versions by firms including H. J. Mulliner. Park Ward and Freestone
and Webb amongst others. Even by this date. there was little
difference (other than the radiator grilles and the carburation)
between the standard Bentley R-Type and the Rolls Royce Silver
Dawn. allthough Bentley was still the more popular marque.
This delightful Bentley R-Type is fitted with the more desirable
automatic transmission. A very sound example retaining most of the
original features including the tool-kit. this Bentley is one of
the better examples around. The vendor has enjoyed owning VVS 742
and has regularly invested money in her to keep the car up to
standard. To be expected. the seats show a little wear. although
nothing too detrimental to the car and the walnut wood appears to
be in good order. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a
history file. Bentley R-Types have enjoyed a resurgence in values
of late. this one is attractively priced given the condition.
