This very early XJ has led a pampered life . The third owner was a Jaguar enthusiast who had realised his dream of owning an XJ-S. This was not a car that was ever intended to be used for everyday transport. In fact it was only used during the summer months. For the 15 years in the third owners care the Jag was kept garaged. and under cover all year round when not in use. It would not be taken out if even a hint of rain was forecast. During that period he covered just 10. 00 miles Wherever this Jag would go it attracted attention and admiring looks. None more so though than when it was at home being polished in the drive because its greatest admirer. another ardent Jaguar enthusiast and friend of the third owner. lived next door! The two neighbours had a pact. The owner said if ever he decided to sell the XJ-S he would give his friend first refusal provided that he would promise to care for it in the same way to which it had become accustomed ? his friend in return pledged that he would buy it and would most certainly care for it with a passion. Both parties kept to their Pact!We have just put on a quality set of thin whitwall radials. hich really set the car off
Engine & Transmission
Under the bonnet is no exception. as with the rest of the car it gleams under here. Original stickers are all still in place At least one of the hydraulic bonnet stays will need replacing as the bonnet will not stay open as it should on its own. The original Air conditioning was upgraded from the now prohibited CFC gas to a more efficient (and permissible) type R134. The engine is running so quiet when you pull up you could be forgiven thinking its cut out . There is a years mot with no advisories .
Exterior
The paintwork retains a deep lustre and really nothing requires any attention. There is the odd stone chip and light graze that has been touched up with a touch up brush over the years. This car has only had a re paint once by Jaguar in its first three years of life . nder warranty as fading had occurred . The rear quarter panels and boot lid have been painted since due to scratches no filler or remedial bodywork has ever been used Door. boot and bonnet shuts are all fantastic. Of course no welding has ever been carried out and none is required The correct starfish alloy wheels are unmarked and are finished in two tone light and dark silver All of the chrome is excellent
Interior & Equipment
The interior is striking- as good as you could hope to find on an original car that is thirty three years old The slumberland seating in the early model XJ-S HE?s is thought by many to be the most comfortable ever. The leather front seats show a nice patina and apart from a thunb nail sized repair to the side of the passenger seat are not worn through marked or ripped with just a few light creases. The rear seats look like they may well never have been used and the carpets are like new throughout with completely dry and - never been wet- underlay. The floors beneath the carpets are excellent The car even still smells new! The headlining is in first class condition with no sagging. rips or marks. There is a period Philips radio cassette with electric aerial and standard electric windows and door mirrors. Door cards and the rest of the trim are excellent. Of particular note is the light wood veneer. so often cracked and faded on this model. Here it is perfect and as good a condition as we have ever seen. The boot. of course. is in the same standard as the rest of the car. The tool kit is complete and in its Jaguar box even with original bulbs and fuses and looks to be unused. The spare wheel and original tyre look to have hardly been used. There is some paint flaked off below the spare wheel but this has been treated and has not caused any adverse harm. The boot floor under the mat is perfect. Jack and wheel brace in correct hardura bag

Model History

Launched in 1975 the Jaguar XJ-S had quite a mountain to climb. for it was seen by some as the successor to the glamorous and hugely popular E-Type. However. in reality. the car was never envisaged as a direct replacement for the E-Type - being more of a grand tourer than an out and out sports car. Largely designed by Jaguar?s legendary Malcolm Sayer the XJ-S had a top speed of 150mph and 0-60 time of under 8 seconds it slipped through the air far more efficiently than the E-Type and its excellent ride. comfort and handling were justly praised by the mid Seventies motoring press. In 1981 the XJ-S received the new HE (High Efficiency) engine providing improved fuel economy and taking the top speed to 155mph making it the fastest automatic car in the world. In March 1988 a facelift was introduced. Thirty six years after launch the XJ-S has. as did the E-type before it. become a classic with early original and unmolested pre face lift HE?s becoming extremely rare. very collectable and a sure fire sound investment for the future
