TVR Grantura Mk 2. 1622cc engine producing 91bhp at 5500rpm. 0-60 in 9. 6 seconds with a top speed of 107mph. Registered 15/5/1962. Deep blue with tan trim. Hand built at the TVR factory in Blackpool. the Grantura is the first of a long line of TVR cars which made its debut in 1958. This particular car is a Mk2. with the MGA engine and desirable front disc brake option. It is also fitted with a ‘racing' bonnet with extra louvres which may well be unique. Owned by the previous keeper for 39 years. it has been dry stored and well maintained as shown by the substantial history file. Only around 400 Mk 2 granturas were manufactured. and few remain. Eligible for many historic events including the Le Mans classic. this is a real drivers car in great condition with very few owners. and its original registration number. chassis 7/B/515. engine 1211421RS.
The bonnet is a ‘Sprint' lightweight bonnet. manufactured by Tony Claydon. Tony used to race early TVRs and now runs Piper Racing Cars Ltd. He wanted a bonnet for racing which was rigid. lightweight. and helped engine cooling. The TVRs apparently used to run very hot and the bulge and extra vents aided cooling significantly. He says very few were made. certainly less than ten. and some went to America.
Apparently the previous (83 year old!) owner had been busy working on the car. replacing/refurbing many items. eg:-
Reground discs
New brake calliper pistons and seals
New rear brake cylinders and linings
All new metalastic suspension bushes
New swing arm torsion bushes
King pins and bushes
Radiator recored
Maniflow exhaust manifold. stainless exhaust
New track rod ends
New clutch and brake master cylinders and clutch slave cylinder
Halogen headlights
New water pump
Kenlow fan
