Dodge : Charger Special

For sale: 1974 Dodge Charger with the rare Spring Special/ Rallye stripe and Celebrity Roof options. Web sources quote only 212 cars similarly equipped. This car takes it a step further. fully loaded with A/C and cruise control.  Purchased new by a wealthy rancher in Townsend. Montana for an MSRP of $5. 22. 80 it was a very expensive car in the day.  I have a huge folder of original docs including window sticker. warranty paperwork. manuals. brochures. and registration. After many years of happy motoring and regular maintenance. the car was handed down to their daughter. whose estate I recently purchased it from. The car sat in long term storage for the last 20 years. and is amazingly rust free.  Here in the land of sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. we only see 10 inches of total moisture per year and sand. not salt. nbsp;is used on the roads. so we don't see rust issues.  This car hasn't been modified or abused. it's bone stock under hood and appears to have the original exhaust. Even still has the original jack. lug wrench and spare.   I'll do my best to describe this very special car below:

Exterior: Pretty straight. nbsp;solid car with virtually no rust.  Paint is original with great patina but if you want to. it may buff out. I haven't attempted to buff it. The original vinyl top had some cracks. so I had a new top put on and a new windshield installed at the same time. at great expense. ZERO rust under the top. The only speck of rust I can find on the car period is a couple of small pinholes in front of and behind driver rear wheel. and some surface rust under trunk mat. Underside of car is super clean. nbsp;see link to underside pics. Nothing hidden with undercoat. what you see is what you get. In this arid land. we don't get major rust. cancer or rot - there's just no moisture.  There is a dent in passenger floor underneath. Small dent in middle of hood that doesn't show up in pics. Small dent on passenger rear quarter. and a big dent in driver side as shown from a trip into the ditch. Very repairable and I think infinitely preferable to fixing major rust/rot. Glass is good including windshield. which as stated is new. There is a break in one grille insert as shown. Chrome is good with no pitting except on driver mirror. and dent in center of front bumper. Driver door hangs a bit on the striker. will need hinge bushings at some point. Overall a solid original car. the kind you simply don't find any more.

Interior: All original and good condition. no cracks in seat upholstery. nbsp;door panels. armrests or headliner. Original shag carpet in good condition with no major damage.  Dash has a few cracks as shown. All the A/C stuff is there and it blows out the proper vents. but temp control cable is stuck from sitting.  Also the speedo needle jumps and cable is noisy - needs lube.  Everything else seems to work as far as I can tell. including aftermarket stereo and even trunk light.  Vintage CB shown is part of the time warp vibe and will be included.  As stated has the original jack. lug wrench and spare (but spare tire is cracked and won't hold air). Original AM radio is in the trunk and will be included.  Just an honest. complete. nbsp;and functional car.

Mechanical: Starts. runs. and drives out fine. Bulletproof and venerable 318 motor and 727 trans.  I spent close to a thousand bucks having professional mechanic go thru the complete fuel system. nbsp;do a full service and check the car over. No smoke or major oil leaks. Car can be used as is. nbsp;but is not fully sorted yet.  Rear brake shoes are down to metal. and there is one lifter ticking. Mechanic says it's gummed from sitting and may clear up with detergent oil or ATF added to crankcase. or just some more time running. He doesn't see any damage to valvetrain or camshaft and you can change lifter if need be without pulling intake.  The wheels are 15x7 Dodge Mirada and are in good condition with no pitting or damage. Tires are 60 series radials and have good tread but have some weather cracks so plan on replacing at some point. Basically a solid survivor that you could drive and enjoy while you work on it.  

Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too.  These Chargers in rustfree condition often sell for double my reserve. which is under $3000 for quick sale.  I've got almost that into top. windshield. and mechanic bill. Selling to fund purchase of 340 Cuda. Title is clear and in my name with no lien and signed off and notarized and ready to fill in your name as purchaser.  THANKS
