The new Alfetta was released in 1972. with a mechanical layout
which was reminiscent of the late 1930s and 1940s Alfetta 158 and
159 Grand Prix cars. still had the twin overhead cam engine of the
earlier post war Alfas. What linked them to the racing Alfettas was
the shifting of the clutch and gearbox assembly to the rear of the
car and attaching the gearbox to the differential. This transaxle
assembly was located to the complex de Dion rear suspension that
incorporated coils springs and telescopic shock absorbers. The
progressive-rate front suspension used torsion bars in place of the
familiar coil springs of the earlier Giulias and Giuliettas. The
design gave a near 50/50 weight distribution throughout the car. br/>which resulted in the car having exceptional handling
characteristics. The twin cam engine was replaced in 1981 by what
is considered today as the legendary Alfa Romeo V6 engine.

This Alfetta GTV6 is offered with that legendary V6 power plant;
originally fitted with the 2. 5 litre engine that was renowned for
head gasket failures. we are informed by the vendor that this
particular car has been fitted with the later and more reliable
Alfa Romeo 75 3. 0 litre unit that has proved reliable and
quick.

The coachwork presents well with only a few small areas of paint
defects and it certainly looks handsome sitting upon the
Compomotive alloy wheels that are shod with good Avon tyres. The
interior presents well with good beige velour Recaro seats at the
front. The electric windows operate as they should as does the
manually operated sunroof.

We are advised that the Alfetta will arrive at the sale with a
fresh MoT and road fund licence. With the Alfa being offered at 'no
reserve' this represents an opportunity to experience that
marvellous 3. 0 litre V6 with very little outlay.
