There is no doubting the Japanese sports car market was in full bloom by 1970 with the Datsun Z-cars flooding into the United States as a real competitor. Later branded under the wings of Nissan. other manufactures joined the pursuit of sports car buyers that included Honda. Mitsubishi. Toyota. and Mazda. Introduced in 1978. the Mazda-built RX-7 was a real success and carried the sports car division through to 1998 here in the States with multiple revisions and series updates over the years. Although. it wasn't until 1988 with the second generation series until a convertible RX-7 would be available and it remained in production through 1991. Largely inspired by the Porsche 944. they are soon to be one of the next best collectible sports cars for aspiring future collectors!
