First a little history. as I have been told.   I bought this wonderful little Ford jeep from what I believe to be the original civilian owner. It was purchased in 1950 from the Air Force and had seen service in San Diego since 1944. I will not go into the history of jeeps. as if you are looking at this. you probably know. If not. do a search on the Ford GPW (general purpose willys). This will git you the history and build information. I like it 'cause it's a FORD. and more rare than a Willys. The first owner used it for fun. then taught his children to drive with it. then taught his grand children to drive with it. So. it has some lumps and bumps. but no major damage has ever been done. The "tub" is as good as you will find. There is a wee bit of rust. as shown in one of the pictures. The pan is perfect. The seats were upholstered in naugahyde. then covered with cloth to protect the naugahyde. The bottom rear cushion cloth cover is missing. The electrical system has been converted to 12V. including the starter which has recently been replaced with a Chrysler unit. and an alternator has been added. The engine was rebuilt about 5K miles ago and runs like the proverbial Singer. All other mechanicals work fine. It has "Selectro" HD front hubs. and the original full floating rear. One of the pitfalls of the original Jeeps is the steering. The original owner added a Saginaw steering box. as shown in the pics. and built a pitman arm and tie-rod to match. This Jeeps feels like it has power steering. and does not move around at all. It does not have the steering shock that all stockers have. and even with the larger tires it has no shake. wobble. wiggle. vibration. or wander. It is a joy to drive down the road. The steering wheel is original. and also perfect. No cracks. just sexy smooth. All lights work great. including the aftermarket signals. The tires are Federal MS351-A/T  31X10. 50 R15LT's and are like new. They are mounted on widened rims. Now for the good part. included is a full set (5) of the original wheels. shod with Delta 6. 00X16 6-ply snows (4). They are old and starting to crack. but would be great for shows or short trips. For those that don't know. the original jeep wheels are extremely rare. They are a split rim. but not like the dangerous type used in recent years. They are bolted together so that the tire can be changed with only the lug wrench. and no other tools. There is a tow bar attached. with an electrical cord and new style connector for use in towing. It is wired so that you remove. or simply pull one end of the fused loose. and the lights all mimic the pulling vehicle. just like a trailer. Slick. As you can see in the pictures. there is a winch. It is a Warn 8274 - 8000lb unit with plug-in cord control. It has a full drum of 1/4" cable and a nice cable guide. Also at the front are two QuartzXray halogen driving lights. It still has the very kool swingaway headlights. which can been seen in the pictures. and the blackout park lights. At one time. the owner applied a maroon paint job. but the went back to the Olive Drab. The roll bar is very substantial. and padded. and there is a wheel block attached. as the emergency brake handle has pulled loose from the cable.

The YouTube site listed is taken while driving down the road showing the ease of shifting and the lack of any front end movement. It tracks exceptionally well. and has one-finger steering at any speed. It's really quite fun to drive.

This critter is currently registered in Idaho. and even though not required. I will let the new red/white/blue plated go with it.

Well I can't seem to git the YouTube site to work on the listing. My apologies. I listed the video on YouTube as "Ford GPW" jeep. Big mistake. as there are lots of videos with that title. Go down through the list. and on the second page you will see the GPW dash with me in the drivers seat in levis. It also has my name. Bruce. I will list another which will be better and easier to find. Thanks for your patience. Bruce

Hi All. I had a comment about the VIN and engine numbers. The VIN plate number and the frame number are the same. and that number is listed in the details. The engine number is 44-1-72573. which is in the Q&A's.   I would assume that the 44 in the engine number means it was manufactured in 1944. and installed at some time before it was civilian sold. The original owner (civilian) has said that the engine has not been changed since he bought the jeep back in 1950.
