1975 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40FJ40L. Factory Soft TopFreeborn Red1/75 Build DateVIN# FJ40192188Engine # 2F 0029784-Speed Manual transmission
-1 California owner since 2/1977. open California title in hand-Sold new at Frank Motors Toyota in California in 5/75 (NOT a South American import). nbsp;-I obtained it in summer of 2014 and brought it to Greenville. South Carolina. where it is located-approximately 25. 00 original miles. (currently being driven)
-No Rust. ever.  All original sheet metal. no filler.  -Recent paint. nbsp;upholstery. cosmetic refurbishment.  -Body panels were disassembled prior to painting and the Freeborn Red paint shows very well.  -New upholstery on original front seats and jump seats in correct gray vinyl-Fresh fluids (engine oil. transmission. transfer case. axles). filters. tune-up-New OEM soft top. door skins and soft-top frame -New 2. 5" Pro Comp leaf springs and Bilstein shocks-New 33x10. 50/15 BFG All Terrain tires-Holley carburetor with headers and free-flow exhaust. runs great with this configuration; original 2F air cleaner remains with the vehicle in case buyer wants to return to stock; original smog equipment also remains with the truck. i. e. Air pump. VSV. charcoal canister. etc. (sorry. no carb)-The original set of tires. and only other set of tires that have ever been on this vehicle. will also come with the vehicle if the buyer wants them. (H78-15 Dunlop Snow Cruisers with date stamp of 12/74)
-Fully functioning lights. blinkers. gauges. heater. etc. -Dash is uncut and all original. including original AM radio. which works. One toggle switch installed in factory opening that controlled a Warn 8274 winch. which I removed to install a new OEM Toyota bumper.  -Original paint on dash and floorboards and under seats.  Interior of cargo area and wheel wells was repainted and looks great. -Original Toyota floormat. owners manual. emissions/maintenance manual. safety door straps for when the factory soft doors are removed. jack handle and extensions (sorry. no jack).  -Two California blue plates issued in 1977 with Frank Motors Toyota license plate frames for your collection
-Engine very strong. fires right up and idles well. no smoke at all. burns no oil.  Slow oil leak from the rear main area. just a few drops over time. and not worth the time or money to fix; no other leaks at all.  -Shifts well. 4WD works fine. Warn locking hubs turn freely-very little slop in the manual steering; tall. skinny tires allow easy steering and driving-suspension is not stiff and rides great. this combination of springs and shocks has been described as the best riding set-up for 40s

A little about its history:This vehicle was purchased by a couple who owned a jewelry-making business.  They wanted this vehicle in order to scout out the mountains of California in search of gemstones.  The wife did not like the drab colors that were offered in these and insisted on the red one at the dealership.  Good choice.  They used it for a couple of years as intended. but the wife finally decided it was just too rough-riding for her.  It then stayed on their farm in the very dry region of the Sierra Nevadas in California ever since and accumulated just a few more thousand miles.  Over the years. the dry climate and sun took its toll on the paint and top. so the previous owner had it painted and an aftermarket Bestop installed.  (The cracked steering wheel can be attributed to the climate as well. )  I personally installed the OEM style soft top. new suspension. and performed the baselining maintenance and other minor repairs.  Previous owners contact info can be supplied to the next owner.  I have spoken with him a couple of times and he loves to talk about this old Cruiser.

The FJ40L. with its Factory Soft Top configuration was only sold in the US through 1976. according to my research.  1975 and 1976 are the only years that a FST was available with the 4 speed manual (as opposed to 3 speed) and larger 2F 4. 2L engine.  Total number of FSTs produced from 1975-76 is probably between 1000-2000 units.  The rarity of this vehicle. nbsp;combined with its condition. makes this an investment quality Cruiser.  Note this is NOT a South American import; this is a California-spec. US FJ40.
