FAIRTHORPE PATHFINDER V8 PROJECT for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 787 votes

I am selling this car as a project as it has no engine or gearbox and no mot. It is in good mechanical order and was driving well before the engine and box was removed. It has only covered a couple of hundred miles since its last mot. It is set up to take a rover V8 and SD1 gearbox.  I have recieved the car due to an unpaid bill for fitting a brand new engine into it. The engine has been sold to recoupe as much money as possible. I can't give much history on the car as I have no paper work other than the v5. This is a very rare car and wiil make an easy project for someone. Running gear I think is from a cortina with spax coilovers. Other bad points are. it will need a new ignition switch as I dont have the keys for it and paint work is quite tatty and scratched.

Any viewing is welcome. The car is located in craven arms. shropshire. All offers will be considered.

Is the fair Thorpe still for sale.

Other than the Rover V8 fitted to five of these chassis two were fitted with 2 litre Ford engines and one with a 2.3 Ford V6. The last I think is a better balance. It now resides in Germany and is very loved. Only eight of these chassis - the Pathfinder - were built the V6 being the last. It was the final car to bear the Fairthorpe badge - a continuous line since 1953. The car here illustrated has the large cockpit moulding and the full width dash. It is not clear from the pictures whether it has the Cortina beam rear axle or the Sierra end. If a Cortina axle is contemplated I would recommend the V6 auto axle as it has lower gearing and is more substantial. The cockpit is quite short so tall drivers, over 6 ft, find it cramped. The front suspension is Ford Cortina and works well as it is removed from the 'bed' and a properly set up example corners well. I enjoyed my V6 all the years I owned it. I guess it would be possible to fit a straight six. The hump in the bonnet was adapted from a GT 6 to allow for such a possibility. Do not be tempted to fit excessively wide or low profile tyres stick to largest standard Ford Cortina, that was always Frank's recommendation and he designed and built it. They worked well on mine. You can make a very good looking hood by stretching a Spitfire frame. The bonnet can be more classily secured by using Fiesta bonnet locks. Windscreen is late model Capri with early model seal. MGB headlamp trims will finish off the front lights. Altogether a splendid opportunity to buy some non ersartz cobra British Heritage. I am tempted to do it again but my years are against me! Which chassis No is it? I look forward to seeing it on the road before long!

Hi
I see that the last question was some time ago so is this still for sale or just not removed from this website?
