This is one of the cars of the moment with prices rising every month. quite rightly as they are superb little cars. supremely stylish and totally practical. Ours is the 230SL with the desiarble Automatic Transmission. Power Steering and Hard and Soft Tops. the perfect spec.

Introduced at the Geneva Salon in March 1963 as replacement for the 190SL. the 230SL is a landmark model which founded a sports car dynasty that would prove an enormous commercial success for Mercedes-Benz The 230SL abandoned its predecessor's four-cylinder engine in favour of a 2. 3-litre fuel-injected six derived from that of the 220SE and producing 150bhp. An instant classic. the body design was entirely new while beneath the skin the running gear was conventional Mercedes-Benz. featuring all-round independent suspension (by swing axles at the rear). disc front/drum rear brakes and a choice of four-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Top speed was in excess of 120mph. The Mercedes-Benz 230SL was owned by countless film stars and celebrities. becoming one of the iconic sports cars of the 1960s. and even managed a debut competition victory in the Spa-Sofia-Liège Rally. Christened 'pagoda top' after their distinctive cabin shape. these SL models were amongst the best-loved sports-tourers of their day and continue to be highly sought after by collectors.

First registered 31st December 1964 this left hand drive automatic 230SL was imported recently from the USA and re registered here in the UK. Fitted with European specification front headlamps it has large file of invoices that show that the car was registered in Oregon from 1999 to about 2007 and then in Los Angeles California until it was exported to the UK. Both these owners seem to have kept the car well maintained. It has repainted at some time and finish is still good. apart from some blemishes on both doors and scratches to the soft top cover. the soft top also has a small tear in the passenger side. Generally the car is sound. but it could befit from further cosmetic restoration. mechanically the car is in good running condition. the engine appears sound and runs well without smoking. The car is supplied with a factory hard top in matching body colour.

A good useable car that could be improved. it has an MoT until April 2015 and no. the price is not a mistake. yes. they are selling for £100k for a mint one. but this is not that car. just an honest driver which can be improved over the winter and enjoyed next summer.
