With just 7% of R Type production being left hand drive. this car is one of just 166 built out of a total of 2. 20. An excellent example. having had just three owners from new. the last for 37 years. this is one of the nicest you will find. being very sound. both in terms of body and underside. smartly painted in black. with an excellent. recent and correct beige leather interior. Complete with all tools. handbook. etc. running and driving nicely. fitted with a new set of Michelin tyres prior to its return to the UK from France. where it has been all its life. Offered newly MoT tested and UK registered. A rare opportunity.

Snippets: Henri Rene Champoiseu – Early Grand Prix Driver.

Delivered to the firm of Ets H. Champoiseau whose connections with the motoring world can be traced back to the early 1900s. Henri Rene Champoiseau started his career as racing cyclist. graduated to motorcycles & by 1914 was a member of Theo Schneider's Grand Prix team. Champoiseau was also a keen pilot & during the 1920s was a member of Les Vieilles Tiges. After retiring from racing Henri (known as Rene) became a commercial director for Schneider and eventually set up his own firm. Champoiseau was a keen inventor and in 1930 invented draught strips for use with window frames both in vehicles & buildings. he later experimented with electroplating & patented a method to do this. In the 1920s Ets H Champoiseau became the sole European distributors for Benzer Lens. designed by Louis & Henri Benzer of New York. The 2nd name on the chassis card is Msr G J Hoppenot of Paris – there is a fascinating family of this name – Henri Hoppenot diplomat. his wife Helene Delacour (photographer & Author) & their daughter Violaine (French Resistance). In 1977 (which coincidently was the year that Henri Hoppenot died) B15LWG was acquired by the 3rd owner & registered at Rue Pierre Brossolette – a street named after the WWII Resistance Fighter who acted as the liaison between several groups and between London & General Charles de Gaulle.
