UP FOR SALE IS A 1965 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE WITH THE ULTRA RARE "PLAYBOY PINK" EXTERIOR COLOR OPTION.

This car was not your typical dealer car lot car.   The only way to get one was to know somebody who knew somebody who could get the color option ordered.   The legacy of the playboy pink mustangs are easily found on the internet which goes back to Hugh Hefner picking out the pink color to be painted on a 1965 mustang to be given as one of the grand prizes to Donna Michele (the 1964 Playmate of the year). The color that Hugh Hefner chose was known as Playmate Pink. and later became known as Playboy Pink.   There are a few known examples out there. mostly 67 and newer models but very few examples of 1965 convertibles were made or even exist today.   The car in this auction is one of them that was custom ordered. which wasn't easy since only high ups at Ford. executives. and certain dealers even knew how to order one since the color was not on any sales brochures or catalogues of the day.   I have heard from a few Ford affecionadoes that there were probably less than 100 known examples to have ever been produced. but since Ford did not keep records of these cars no one is for sure.

This car was purchased off a dealer lot as a trade in by a Ford executive in 1966 where it's second owner purchased the car for his wife.   She drove the car sparingly over the next 25 years until her death in 1992.   Her son inherited the car. and not knowing much about cars just parked it in the corner of his garage. and time went by.   The car sat in. and out. of his garage until October of last year when my sister called me to tell me she was getting married and that her husband wanted to take her on a nice honeymoon so he was going to sell his mothers car.   That is when she called me to come look at it.   Originally I purchased the car to fix up for my daughter. but after obtaining the car. and seeing just how ultra rare these cars are I have decided to let it go to a collector that is going to restore it. love it. and appreciate it more than my teenage daughter would.   I started to do some minor restoration on it which includes replacing the gas tank. 2bbl carburetor. starter. solenoid. all the fluids and filters. belts. hoses. and dash and glove box covers.   All the original parts that were taken off have been kept. but they were pretty rough.   All exept that gas tank which had holes in it from years of sitting.   The new tank is a reproduction tank that has been seal coated internally for years of trouble free use.

Her son informed me that the car got into a fender bender in the 70. s which required the replacement of the drivers fender and a repaint which was done by Earl Schieb.   So the color you see on the car is not the exact Playboy Pink color.   Once you open up the hood. trunk lid. or take out the rear seat you will see the original playboy pink color which is a much paler pink.   The one true way to verify the color option of the Playboy Pink cars is to check the doors option tag.   If the car is pink and the color code was left blank than you have a playboy pink car.   The color option was left blank because Ford at the time did not want to associate with the Playboy magazine.   Bad for marketing I suppose.

This car is an original 289 2 barrel automatic car.   Built in San Jose California according to another Ford enthusiast who has looked at the car to verify it authinticity.   This car is a Diamond in the rough ready for a restoration.   The frame is solid. as well as the torque boxes.   There is some outlying rust in the floor pans closest to the doors. some of the forward and rear lips of the fenderwells have some rust. and also the bottom of the doors  in the interior have rust in them as well.   That is the bad that I can see.   The rest of the car is solid.   The son. now my brother in law. said he had to store the car outside for two years when he was getting a divorce.   That is where the rust is belived to have started.   This is a south Texas car and usually the only way stuff rust down here is when wet grass rubs up underneath a car for a time.

The interior has some typical pitting of the chrome. and even though the pony interior seats are amazingly in good shape there are a couple of areas where the thread has seperated on a seam. but that is it.   The seat are not torn or ripped anywhere that I can see.   This car also has the GT instrument cluster. which I didn't know about becasue I'm not really a Mustang guy. but I have had alot of people come to see this car and school me on what it is.   It has it's original jack in the trunk as well as it's original top boot in the factory sleeve that it has been stored in.   Most folks have heard of the Playboy Pink Mustangs. but no one has ever seen one in person. as I was told.   Even the local news station has a mustang fan producer who heard about the car and was wanting to do a story on it's rarity.   I got the car running again. which it runs real nice. and took it to a local mustang show that even though the car was not show worthy. but was still a hit at the show.   The Shelby GT350 owner sitting next to me was mad becasue there were more people taking photo's of the Playboy Pink Convertible than his fully resotred car.

I've had the car for sale locally. but I have decided to put this on Ebay.   To many lowballers out there who don't realize that I know what the car is. I know what it is worth. and it really needs to go to someone who truly wants that one of a kind Mustang Convertible for thier collection that most people have only heard about.   Besides guys. if you want to get your wife off your back about your hot rods. put her into this hot pink convertible and she will love you forever and leave you alone about how much your throwing away on those muscle cars.   I had more women go nuts when they saw this car.   Even one girl was in tears becasue she wanted it so bad. but couldn't get the financing.   This car is turning 50 this year and I'd like to see it go to someone that is going to give this rare pink lady a facelift for her birthday.   So here the car is up for everyone to bid on. and take home a truly unique. highly optioned. Ultra Rare. Playboy Pink Convertilbe Mustang!!!
