1929 Rolls Royce Phantom II Tourer.

Chassis number 151XJ
Registration number GC2351

A very imposing & impressive phantom two which comes with close to £150. 00 in bills. Most recently £70. 00 was spent on the car fettling it upon its return from the Peking Paris rally which it handled with aplomb.

The car is finished in a bright red with black wings with the pint being in really superb condition. not long done. The front wings are light & sporting descending to the running board in an elegant uninterrupted curve. Rear wings are also light weight. The car is a full four seater & has the option of either a front bench seat or a pair or more comfortable chair style seats giving good lateral support. The bench seat is currently fitted.

The hood is easily erected & mounts via a latch & two thumb screws to the angled V windscreen. The spare tyre is rear mounted. There is provision for separate tonneau covers to the front & rear cockpits which we will be getting made up shortly at our local trimmers. A beautifully fabricated spare fuel tank mounting in the boat tail section of the car comes with it; particularly useful for those contemplating long overland trips. There is also a full set of de-mountable under guards to protect the vital areas from flying rocks etc encountered in the 'stans.

Whilst being set up for long distance overland work. the car also performs wonderfully as a family tourer for less adventurous outings; The current owner regularly loading up his wife & children for picnics & jaunts. The car has a real presence on the road & a huge wow factor from passers by.

The car is in mechanically superb order as evidenced by the plethora of paperwork. We simply gave up trying to photograph all the bills as they were so numerous & instead settled for photographing piles of bills sorted by vendor. Suffice to say. the car is fully rebuilt including a photographic record of the engine rebuild. Two original manuals also come with the car. New Wefco leather gaiters are being fabricated for the front & rear springs.

On the road the car drives perfectly. The engine is utterly silent. even from cold & starts readily off the retard lever when warm indicating excellent compressions to the bores. The steering is tight with no slop or play in it & the powerful engine wafts one down the road effortlessly.

All in all a really lovely car with a rakish sporting post war body needing absolutely nothing.

Comments and questions to the seller:

Fabulous to see this car that my father owned for many years. I remember him bringing it home, it was essentially a chassis with biscuit tins full of bits. The actor Ian Carmichael helped load it onto a trailer. Gradually he rebuilt it, weekend home from University all I saw of my father were his feet sticking out from under the car. His first trips out were sitting on an orange box. The tool box was made by students at Stockport College. They loved having a special project to work on and it’s brilliant to see it still in use. Elspeth Beswick
