The Triumph TR5 was manufactured for just 13 months. from August
1967 through to September 1968 and is the most sought-after of the
Michelotti /Karmann-styled Triumph sports roadsters and combining
the most elegant early looks with all-independent suspension and
the best engine. Optional extras included overdrive. wire wheels
and the Surrey top with detachable roof panel. Visually identical
to the Michelotti-styled TR4. the TR5 hid its main differences
under the body and the most significant of these was the engine. br/>the first British production sports car unit to feature petrol
injection. The 2498cc straight-six used Lucas' new indirect
injection system to develop 150bhp. But it's the TR5 that
aficionados seek out as the most attractive and collectible of the
series. Only 1. 61 were built for the British market against almost
8. 00 carburettor-fuelled TR250s for America.

This competition TR5 has won five TR Register Sprint and
hill-climb championships. the most recent being the 2014 season. br/>achieved by the current owner of this outstanding example. The
specification of this TR5 is as follows; 2. 7 litre six-cylinder
engine built in 2008 with steel con-rods. forged pistons and the
crankshaft was tuftrided as well as balanced. Triple Weber 45 DCOE
carburettors are fitted. as is a six into one exhaust manifold that
complies with MSA noise requirements. The engine has been rebuilt
this year with new bearings and a Classic Racecraft camshaft
producing 210bhp at the flywheel. A lightweight starter motor and
alternator are fitted in addition to an aluminium radiator. The
transmission is a close ratio (A-Type) with rapid engagement and a
Revington logic box. The gearbox and overdrive unit were rebuilt in
2011. all this is mated to a Quaife limited slip differential with
a 4. 3 ratio. The net result of the investment into YXC 799F is this
is a fantastically competitive car. presented in excellent order.
Road legal and supplied with a V5 registration document together
with an MSA logbook and MoT test certificate valid until August
2015. A highly desirable model in its own right. this Triumph TR5
is available at a mere fraction of the cost it would take to build
such a stunning car.
