Ford's ultra successful first generation Mustang came in for one
final revision. which lasted for the three years between 1971 and
1973. Although it shared many of the styling cues of the original. br/>every dimension was bigger - the car was longer. wider and heavier
in keeping with industry trends. Built on a 109-inch wheelbase. the
1971-1973 Mustangs remained true to the original formula in many
ways. continuing to offer a myriad of engines. transmissions and
trim options. Three different body styles were available. ranging
from the Coupé and Fastback to the Convertible although demand for
ragtops was in serious decline and 1973 would be the final year of
the open-topped Mustang for several seasons.

On offer is this very rare righthand drive 1971 Mustang
Convertible. built in Dearborn. Michigan for the managing director
of Ford UK and registered to him in February 1971. The consensus of
opinion with Mustang experts and American car specialists who have
worked on this car is that it could have been built as an appraisal
unit to test and to show to Ford customers the option
of righthand drive. These test cars were built by most of the
American manufactures but then destroyed. it is known that a few
cars did survive and this could be one of them. The second owner
kept the car for twenty-one years with the registration number EMM
4J before selling it in 1992 to a Mr. Turner of Cornwall. The car
was then sold to Mr. England in Aberdeen who set about a complete
restoration and an engine rebuild in 1997. The next recorded owner
is in 2004. a Mr. Clark from Colchester who. while in his
ownership. kept the car fully maintained by American Specialists. br/>Tom Newman. He sold the car in 2010. This excellent example is
finished in dark blue with black interior and roof and is supplied
with a V5C registration document. an MoT test certificate which
expires in September 2015. a file containing photographs of the
1990's restoration. invoices from 1994 to 2007 and a number of old
MoT test certificates and old tax discs. These early 1970s models
have great appeal. both visually and behind the
wheel.
