The Pontiac Star Chief debuted in 1954 as the brand's premier automobile. It was built on a stretched A platform. which also underpinned the Buicks and smaller Oldsmobiles of the day. Available with a straight 8. AC and fancy stars flanking the front fender. the 1954 proved to be a great forerunner to next year's model. The 1955 Star Chief was completely redesigned and featured new V8 power. along with several different body styles and Pontiac's first application of a wrap-around windshield! The '55 was very much a sight for sore eyes with fantastic two-tone paint. newly redesigned “Silver Streaks” and a long 124 inch wheelbase! Today. the Star Chief Convertible remains the rarest and most valuable of the bunch as only 19. 62 were built at a base price of $2. 91.

Finished in a lovely special order Vogue two-tone Castle Gray / Bolero Red exterior paint scheme. it is complemented by an equally flattering Red / Ivory Morrokide interior. This vinyl-like material was designed specifically for use in convertibles. where it proved to be more resistant to sun fading and exposure to the elements. Under the hood. the car maintains its original. numbers matching Strato-Streak 287ci/200hp motor and Dual Range Hydra-Matic transmission. This car featured more standard equipment than a Chevrolet and many options that were available on Buicks including: power convertible top. rear-mounted continental kit. Basic group (underseat heater and defroster. direction signal. radio and antenna. back-up lamps. tilting rear-view non-glare mirror. oil-bath air cleaner. full-flow oil filter). Appearance Group (exhaust deflector. lighted hood ornament. No-Mar fuel door guard. rear fender shields) and Latex foam cushions! We know from the original car order receipt that the car was originally purchased on May 18th. 1955 from Paretti Pontiac in New Orleans. LA; the original owner traded in a 1950 Olds 98 4-door sedan. The original owner had the car until April 2012 and the car's odometer reads only 46. 51 original miles! Cosmetically. the car is a pleasure to look at! The car has newer paint. carpet and top as well as a very recently detailed engine bay. The car comes with its extra spare. jack and lug wrench and also a boot cover. As far as literature. we also have the original New Orleans inspection card. invoice. car order. service policy. coupons. promissory note and owner's manual. The car runs great. a testament to the low mileage! The motor feels torquey and has no problem getting this Chief down the road! The transmission shifts are crisp and this car makes a delightful highway cruiser! This is exactly what the characters of I Love Lucy did on a journey to California in one 1955 episode. in this car!
