Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car. in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight. in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.

West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional older restoration example of this rare 1953 MG TD2 Roadster with its original matching #'s 1250cc 4 cylinder engine and 4 speed transmission and beautifully presented in 'Light Yellow' color paint with all body panels obviously removed. stripped and media blasted prior to painting. new chrome and a gorgeous British Racing Green leather interior matched to a British Racing Green front grill!

The car was purchased by it's most recent southern California owner in 2005 with a reported 15. 68 original miles as noted on the California title but please note that there is no other documentation to substantiate the mileage. The odometer now reads 17. 17 miles. The car has obviously has no rust and there are no signs of any previous accidents - one very rare example indeed! The car has a very nice black convertible top which is perfectly functional and the car will be sold with it's original side curtains. a full weather fitted tonneau cover. protective engine compartment mats for the mechanic. wooden factory measuring stick for the fuel tank. original crank lever for manual start. British License Plates. factory spare wheel and a fitted car cover! All the options are working as they should including all the gauges. the tachometer. turn signals and lights.

This is obviously one especially desirable example of the MG TD2. which by July 1951 had received a new XPAG 1250cc block with a new sump. new bell housing and a new flywheel to accommodate the new larger clutch. The engine prefix number was also changed to TD2 and the TD's fitted with this engine have subsequenty become known to enthusiasts as TD2 models. Several other changes were introduced between August and November 1952 including circular rear lamps incorporating flashing turn signals and a three bow frame replaced the two bow frame for the hood. Also the wiper motor was moved to the center of the windshield.

As the MG marque's renown expert Richard Knudson observed "If the TC started the sports car revolution. it was the TD that fought the battle". It did so by improving the TC without losing the charm. Styling continued with bolt-upright radiator. cutaway doors. flowing separate fenders. fold-flat windshield. a convertible top with side curtains but with a slightly wider body that was therefore roomier than the TC model. The TD also had 15" steel wheels instead of the TC's 19" wheels and these new sized wheels were attached to a stronger frame with the startling advantage of newly designed independent front suspension. That combined with softer damping. wider tires and the reduced height from the smaller wheels and new coil-spring front made for a smoother ride and even tauter handling than its legendary racing predecessor.

This particular car truly has to be seen to be appreciated and driven to be believed - probably drives better than it must have when brand new and which now boasts an upgraded 12 volt battery and a new fuel pump! The engine purrs imperceptibly under the hood and the 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. although please note that these cars had no synchro rings in the transmission and therefore it is recommended to come to a complete stop before downshifting back to first gear. The tires are virtually new and the cars paint is of show quality. The wood grain around the dash has also been refinished.

Without a doubt you will look long and hard to find a finer example of this beautiful and rare southern California 1953 MG TD2 Roadster with its original matching #'s engine. a very rare piece of British motoring history - perfect for the MG enthusiast or any classic car collector!
