1988 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Sport Targa

Finished in the classic colour scheme of Guards Red with Linen leather piped in red. this J Series ('89 model year) Sport Targa was first registered in December '88 by Waldron Porsche of Maidenhead. Being a late model it has the desirable G50 gearbox.

2014 service to be completed before sale



The last keeper bought the car from a very well regarded marque-specialist dealer in 2007 and has been extremely proactive in the car's maintenance and improvement during his ownership.

In addition to the above. in 2007 (@101k miles) Autostrasse carried out a top end engine rebuild and the car received a full glass-out repaint. The inner arches/wings have been steam cleaned. wax rust-proofed and fitted with arch liners from Specialist Vehicle Preparations. The Targa top has been retrimmed. the rubbers/felt seals replaced and the door membranes replaced with the result that this Targa is leak and wind noise free.

The 7/8×16 Fuchs wheels have been refurbished by Carlo Bonetti and secured with 993 locking nuts.

The engine runs beautifully. maintains perfect oil pressure and does not leak any oil. It has Turbo valve covers. a Steve Wong remap and a Turbo Thomas stainless steel exhaust. which only improve its responsiveness.

The engine and gearbox mounts have been replaced. as have the gear linkages. The CV joints have been rebuilt. the brakes have received new discs and pads.

The body and paintwork are superb with no corrosion. dents or scratches. Equally the interior is in near perfect condition including the pale carpets and heavily bolstered Sport seats. The stereo has been upgraded to a modern DAB unit with handsfree. Ipod connection. CD changer and upgraded speakers.

Recently this Targa had a corner weight and geometry setup by Francis Tuthill to ‘fast road spec' with the result that it handles very crisply indeed.

All the original books/manuals and service book come in the original wallet. There are two sets of keys and several folders of history/paperwork.

On the road this Targa delivers everything a really well sorted. carefully maintained 911 of this era should. Having spent a week or so driving this car over 500 miles. we came to the conclusion that it drives better than many a 911 we've experienced that have covered less than half the mileage. Thanks to the care and will of previous owners to invest money when required. this Porsche's condition is such that there is nothing for a new owner to do other than look after and enjoy it.
