1941 Lincoln Continental Convertible V12

Here at MissChiTown we believe that an informed buyer is the best buyer and therefore on an important car like this Lincoln Continental we believe that a little bit of the history is appropriate.   In 1926 General Motors hired Harley Earl to be in charge of the newly formed styling department. the idea caught on with the Ford Motor Company.   Edsel Ford along with head designer E. T. Gregorie. Jr. had the Lincoln upgraded by the Lincoln styling department.

Before there were styling departments the engineers produced a running chassis and then a stylist would cover it with sheet metal.   Now the psychology in the 1930s and the early 1940s was reversed and the styling department created the design and then the chassis and engine were configured to fit the stylist design.

In 1938 Edsel Ford suggested to designer E. T. ‘Bob' Gregorie that he build special design car on the Lincoln Zephyr chassis for his own personal use.   It is said that when Edsel Ford took his highly styled custom bodied to Palm Beach. Florida for his winter vacation he came back with orders for 200 and this sent the Lincoln Continental into production.   The production run of all Lincoln Continental runs from 1939 until 1948.

For 1941 Lincoln Continentals. engineering improvements included having the rear tread increased by 2 ½ inches along with improved shock absorbers.   This is among the many reasons why the 1941models are considered the most desirable Lincoln Continental convertible.   Another reason that the 1941 Lincoln Continental convertible is considered the best of the entire series is that many people feel it is the most beautiful design. Noted architect. Frank Lloyd Wright considered Gregorie's Continental 'the most beautiful car in the world. '

The early models. including the 1941. are definitely considered by just about everybody to be of the finest overall design of any pre-war car!  Here at MissChiTown we have always found the Lincoln Continental to be one of our favorite designs and generically to be one of the best price bargains in classic car collecting.

The car in this ad starts. stops and runs as it should and just check out the pictures and you can see the quality of the restoration.  This car is coming from a top collector.

This car has an AM radio. 16” disk wheels. power convertible top. 3-speed manual transmission. tan canvas top. V12 engine. The odometer reads 7. 35 miles but is not believed to be correct.

It is interesting to note that the 1941 Lincoln Continental was no longer considered part of the Lincoln Zephyr line but was an independent line of its own.

Interestingly enough. in 1941 Ford Motor Company no longer had a custom body builders build the Continental body but to over building the actual bodies for the Lincoln Continental.   When Lincoln started taking over the complete construction of the Lincoln Continental numerous small changes were made to the cosmetics that were considered vast improvements.   Small mechanical changes were made such as having the hood unlatch from a pull cable rather under the dash board rather then by turning the hood ornament.   Modifications were further made to the suspension.

Yes. besides Frank Lloyd Wright thinking this was the most beautiful car in the world and of course he purchased one for his own personal use. there are many movie stars in Hollywood both before and after the war that made a Lincoln Continental their personal choice.

Lincoln Continentals generically are a real bargain in the marketplace and the car in this auction is the REAL DEAL and has been fully restored and sorted out.   If you decide to park this Lincoln Continental on the street be prepared when you come back to find a large crowd around the car. it will almost always attract an interested crowd of all ages.
