A very smart example of a late overdrive ‘M series' car. attractively finished in two shades of green with tan leather interior. headlining. carpets and woodwork. all recent and excellent. The Park Ward body incorporates ‘pontoon' style wings. and a sliding steel sunroof. Has a new set of wheel discs. correct lamps. etc and all of the chrome is in lovely condition. Running and driving well and benefits from a recent stainless steel exhaust system. Rare and desirable.

Chassis No. B83MX. Reg No. FXN609. £82. 00.

Snippets: Petrocochino to Petro to Petronius

During WWII B83MX was registered to London Metal Products in Ilford. a subsidiary of the electronics firm Plessey & Co. LMP were founded in 1917 and moved to their Ilford site in 1923 where they became involved with the wireless firm of Marconi; at one stage the Marconi account represented some 80% of Plessey's total turnover! In 1939 the workforce of Plessey numbered some 5. 00 & from 1936 the firm extended their production line to include Coffman Starters for aircraft engines. Pesco Fuel Pumps. Shell Cases. Aircraft Parts and of course Radio Equipment. In February 1944 B83MX was with Lt Col Anthony Petro (the family name had been changed in 1901 from Petrocochino). it would appear that the Lt Col announced 3 engagements in The Times but only wed two of the ladies concerned! In 1950 the chassis records show that B83MX was with non-other than Leo Genn. a British stage & film actor who at that time was in Italy filming Quo Vadis? – Leo Genn was nominated for an Oscar for his role of Gaius Petronius. Genn's film credits include Henry V. Caesar & Cleopatra. Red Beret. Moby Dick and during his acting career he starred alongside Alan Ladd. Jayne Mansfield & Olivia de Havilland. Leo Genn had studied law & was a practising barrister but by 1939 the acting bug had bitten & he became a full time actor. during WWII Genn served with the Royal Artillery gaining the rank of Lt Col & was awarded the Croix de Guerre. After the war he joined the British unit which was investigating war crimes & served as an Assistant Prosecutor at the Belsen War Crimes.
