RARE FORMAL LIMOUSINE WITH DIVIDER WINDOW! OPTIONED WITH STEEL COVERED SIDE MOUNTS. WHITEWALL TIRES. REAR LUGGAGE RACK WITH METAL TRUNK! EXCELLENT TOURING CAR!
In 1935. the US was right in the middle of the Great Depression and automakers were forced to cut down on high line models and focus on the bread and butter essentials. Luxury automakers like Stutz. Pierce-Arrow. Peerless. Cunningham. Marmon and Duesenberg went out of business altogether! Lincoln. however. having the benefit of full backing by Ford Motor Company and Mr. Edsel himself. was able to continue pushing the boundaries of design and offer full size. exuberant luxury cars. First introduced in 1931 as the successor to the Model L. the Model K was familiar with the Great Depression since its inception. Serving as proof that the rich were indeed still rich. Model Ks found homes in the garages of affluent Americans at a consistent rate throughout their nine years of production. By the mid-1930s. Lincoln offered 18 custom and standard Model K body styles with the Limousine being the most popular; 282 of these Limos (designated 303-B) were sold in 1935 alone at a price nearing $4700! Standard equipment included a big V12 and a 145 inch wheelbase. not to mention full partition for the chauffeur-driven passengers and inlaid wood trim throughout.
St. Louis Car Museum is thrilled to have this 1935 Lincoln Model K Seven-Passenger Limousine! Finished in its original Dark Garnet Maroon exterior with contrasting khaki pinstriping and wire wheels. this survivor Lincoln demands attention. On the inside. the driver's quarters is finished in black leather. You don't have to look far to find a full set of instruments that serve to remind you the provenance of what's under the hood. It maintains its original 150 horsepower 414ci V12 and floor-shifted three-speed manual. Passengers behind the crank-operated glass partition are coddled with gray buttoned cloth and the finest appointments offered at the time. Lincoln went so far as to move the rear seats forward in 1935 so that they could minimize the jolts and vibrations of riding on top of the rear axle. Jump seats. foot rests and dual ashtrays were standard equipment. Of special note on this car are the dual side-mount spares and rear-mounted luggage rack with color-matched. dual-hinged metal trunk.
Everything about this Lincoln exudes luxury. The Model K was one of the finest motorcars in the world when it was new and still makes a strong statement today. It was the product of Edsel Ford's desire for a versatile corporate line-up and while cars like this catered to such a small audience. it was important to have this clientele to support Lincoln's vision of a halo car. From the menacing grille to the iconic greyhound hood ornament. this Model K Limousine has not only stood the test of time but represents one of the finest specimens of the Streamline Moderne era.
