For auction today is my beloved '68 Newport! I hate to even let it go. but I have two other projects that take precedent. What follows is a detailed description. PLEASE read it all. but feel free to ask any questions you have. I have a clear title in my name. Serious buyers send me an email for my phone #.
Engine/Drive TrainThis car has a 383 B V-8 that starts and runs every time. It sounds good and has plenty of power. though it will need an oil pan gasket. When it sits. it leaves a puddle. Its a Mopar! It has a factory 2 bbl carb that would probably need an accl. pump to drive reliably. but no matter as a good Carter AFB Performance Series carb is included in the sale. Slap an aluminum intake and this carb on there. and you will really wake this thing up! Has factory dual exhaust. and added glass packs. It needs a fuel sending unit. as the gas gauge quit working. The tank is out presently. Starts and runs still with a fuel can in the trunk. Trans is a 727 Torqueflite that shifts like its supposed to and hasn't given me a bit of trouble. Rear is a 8-3/4 with an unknown gear ratio. These are bulletproof and accept a wide range of gear ratios. Had new custom made leaf springs and new shocks in 2008. Has had maybe 9k miles since then. Brakes work. 4 drums. I have all the factory disc brake parts you will need to convert this car over for extra stopping power. All of these parts came from a parts car and will need rebuilt. Has 15x7 steel wheels and the tires are dry rotted.
BodyThis is a good car. but in the pursuit of honesty. she does have some warts! The worst spot is the trunk pan. Its not all the way bad. but there are a few rust holes above the driver side frame rail and by the gas tank. The good news is that I have a full one piece 16 ga. trunk pan that is included with the sale. The driver side frame rail has a rusted out section in the same spot about 6 inches long. This is a uni-body car. and the frame rail spot welds to the trunk pan. I don't have one. but they are readily available for $109. 95. It is a straight forward repair. Check Google for the part. It has a 50 cent piece size hole on the driver quarter. The driver fender has rust where some battery acid ate into the fender. It was like that when I bought it. A good body guy could fix it. I would buy a new fender. The rest of the car is solid.
Paint/Trim/TopThe silver paint is old and faded! Still looks cool though. From what I was told. the original owner had the car re-painted in 1971 or 2. It was originally gold. and the engine compartment is still gold. The black vinyl top is original. and needs replaced. All of the stainless trim is good. except for the passenger side front fender molding. and the taillight panel trim has one ding. Not bad for the age!
InteriorThe black interior is all original and really not in bad shape. It still has that good old Mopar smell! The seats do need recovered. The front carpet has definite wear on the drivers side foot well. and the pass side front foot well has a bleached out spot from a long ago heater core leak. Maybe a set of floor mats would hide them both. The door panels are good. The headliner is very good. It has a 1/4 tear that is completely hidden when the sun visor is up. The dash is in great shape. it has one tiny corner hanging down by the trip odometer. easy fix. Steering wheel looks good. It has a cool late 60's Yankee Turn Flex turn signal in it. Driver side armrest has a 1/2 long split.
EXTRA PartsIncluded in the sale is everything I have collected up for this car. I have 4 extra 15x7 steel wheels. I have a Carter AFB. I have ALL of the parts needed to convert this car to front factory disc brakes (they ALL need rebuilt). I have a brand new trunk pan. I have a factory cruise control set up and a factory H-D front sway bar and quick ratio steering box. I have a extra set of arm rests. though they are blue. I have an extra air cleaner. and finally. I have a box of dash parts. including an instrument cluster for a cruise control car. Some of this C-Body stuff is hard to find.
All in all this is a cool old Mopar that needs some love. My description makes it sound worse than it is. I'm just really picky with my cars. It has been sitting in my garage for the past 3 years. and I hate to see it deteriorate even further. It will make someone a mean machine with some work! This thing eats the road and gets attention everywhere already! Sold AS-IS. Can store it for 30 days for free. as long as the car is paid for! Thanks for looking!
